Job Description:

OFFICIAL TITLE: Associate Dean of Nursing
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Dean of the School of Science, Technology, and Health
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Clerical and other non-unit staff.

General Statement of Duties: The Associate Dean of Nursing serves as an administrative officer of the School of Science, Technology, and Health. Working with and reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean provides strategic leadership for issues related to Nursing programs and serves as the WSU representative to state and federal regulatory authorities, accrediting bodies and to professional nursing associations. Among other responsibilities, the Associate Dean exercises professional leadership in the department, conducts the routine operations of the department and recommends the development of the curricular and resource requirements. Finally, the Associate Dean assumes any additional duties as assigned by the Dean.

Responsibilities:

  1. (E) Assists the Dean in specialized cross divisional and cross departmental projects.
  2. (E) Assists with the scheduling of courses and oversees the departmental budget.
  3. (E) Identified funding sources locally and nationally, writes grants, and supports other grant writing initiatives in Nursing.
  4. (E) Interfaces with Nursing local, state, and federal communities, related policy makers and constituencies.
  5. (E) Provides leadership within the Department of Nursing in such areas as program development, research grant proposals, and the like.
  6. (E) Makes recommendations regarding the extension or modification of the curriculum structure.
  7. (E) Assists in the conduct of periodic academic program reviews and outcome assessments to strengthen and update the curriculum; specifically BORN and CCNE accreditation reports and updates.
  8. (E) Responsible for coordinating accreditation and academic program review reports and visitations.
  9. (E) Assists in the recruitment of faculty and adjunct faculty.
  10. (E) Maintains communication with students, prospective students and other faculty at the University relative to departmental matters.
  11. (E) Recommends to the Dean plans, policies and procedures in the area of responsibility and provides reports and recommendations as requested in the Nursing Department.
  12. (E) Assigns advisees to members of the faculty of the department.
  13. (E) Seeks, where appropriate, to resolve informal complaints made against faculty and to resolve conflicts between a student and a faculty member or between one member of the faculty and another.
  14. (E) Maintains an inventory of academic and instructional equipment and develops a long-range plan for the replacement of equipment.
  15. (E) Works in collaboration with the Department Chair of Nursing.
  16. (E) Meets regularly with the Provost and/or Dean.
  17. (E) Supervises clerical and other non-unit staff where appropriate.
  18. (E) Completes other duties assigned by the Dean.
  19. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
  20. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan.
  21. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned.



Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree in Nursing.
  • Demonstrated of effective nursing, professional activity, and scholarly accomplishment in the field of Nursing.
  • Minimum of five-years teaching and three-years of administrative experience in Nursing, preferably at the level of Department Chair or above.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with state and federal regulatory authorities and accrediting bodies and with professional Nursing Associates.
  • Sensitivity to and experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Appreciation of faculty governance and evidence of commitment to the faculty input in the decision-making process.
  • Collaborative working style and the ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • Fiscal management experience and familiarity with emerging technologies, distance education, and adult learners are also preferred.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional non-unit position. The firm annual salary range for this position is $130,000- $135,000, commensurate with relevant professional experience and education.
