Job Summary:
The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking an Instructor, Biology (Emphasis in Human Anatomy) for Las Positas College in Livermore, California.

Representative Duties:
1. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate majors in Allied Health, including lectures and laboratories, with an emphasis on human anatomy. Primary assignment in Human Anatomy (Biology 7A), and other classes in the department.

2. Demonstrated ability to teach lower-division human anatomy enthusiastically and effectively to students with varied learning styles.

3. Ability to design and implement innovative teaching methodologies in the allied health fields, including laboratories.

4.Demonstrated knowledge of current laboratory techniques and computer-based instruction.

5. Ability to contribute significantly to the maintenance and continued development of a state-of-the-art science building, including anatomy teaching labs and a human cadaver lab used for demonstration and dissection.

6. Commitment to working successfully as a team with science instructors, laboratory technicians, and other colleagues.

7. Ability to effectively integrate the use of biology facilities (e.g., student learning centers, cadaver lab), and equipment into the Biology program.

8. Commitment to implement, have respect for, and maintain standards of safe laboratory practices with students in the classroom.

9. Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with the local community (e.g. industry, educational partners, government agencies or facilities, museums, or nonprofit organizations).

10. Commitment to contribute to the total operation of the Department, Division, and College.

11. Commitment to representation and outreach to industry and educational partners as related to program innovation and workforce development, including serving on the industry advisory board and collaboration with educational partners in allied health programs.

12. Ability to adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and a variety of teaching modalities, including distance learning.

13. Commitment to working with other Biology and STEM faculty and staff to increase support and success for students in STEM courses and pathways.

14. Participate in recruitment and articulation activities.

15. Ability to seek and support personal creativity and professional growth and demonstrate career objectives consistent with the mission of Las Positas College.

16. Participate in campus professional activities, which include, but are not limited to: committee membership, curriculum development, staff meetings, and community outreach.

17. Ability to teach late afternoon, evening, weekend, and distance learning as needed.

18. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

19. Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.



Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s in any biological science;

OR Bachelor’s in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science

OR the equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications:
Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities.



Desirable Qualifications:
1. Teaching experience in Biology at the college level, with an emphasis in human anatomy.

2. Expertise in human anatomy and one other related area, such as human physiology or microbiology.
3. Demonstrated ability to recruit and support under-represented students and students from marginalized or underserved communities into Allied Health and STEM majors.
