Associate Director of Mission/University Sustainability Coordinator 998094

The Center for Mission and Identity seeks a talented and caring colleague to assist in promoting the active engagement of the Xavier University faculty/staff community in carrying out the mission of the University as a Jesuit Catholic higher educational institution. A major (50%) responsibility of this position is serving as the University Sustainability Coordinator in support of the President’s commitment to being a “Laudato Si’ University.”

The ideal candidate
  • Can lead programming to assist faculty and staff in appropriating the mission and Jesuit educational tradition, including developing new programs to complement existing opportunities.
  • Can serve as a campus liaison for faculty and staff participation in the Jesuit and Catholic networks’ mission programming and for University external relations, such as with the Cincinnati Jesuit Family and Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
  • Can develop, lead, and support initiatives that advance Xavier’s sustainability efforts.
  • Can ensure that sustainability initiatives across the University are effectively working together to:
    *achieve the University’s strategic priorities on environmental care,
    *align with the Society of Jesus’ Universal Apostolic Preferences,
    *support the Cincinnati Jesuit Family system of events, and
    *contribute to Pope Francis’ call to ‘care for our common home.’
  • Maintain and update the JesuitResource.org site, including managing:
    * the associated e-newsletter
    * a team of student employees, and
    * the distribution of print resource orders.
  • Can contribute to the goals and purpose of the Division of Mission and Ministry not outlined above, such as facilitating student retreats, supporting student environmental justice efforts etc.
Required skills
  • Ability to support, create, and direct programs for staff, faculty and students that align with the Division of Mission and Ministry
  • Group facilitation of culturally, racially and religiously diverse people
  • A pastoral interpersonal style
  • An understanding of Jesuit Catholic identity, including the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm and Ignatian spirituality
  • An understanding of integral ecology,Laudato Si,’ the Laudato Si’ Platform, and environmental justice
  • Comfort with technology, especially designing and managing websites
  • Supervision of student employees
  • Excellent written and oral communication
Required Experience
Master’s degree in relevant discipline (i.e., theology, religion, spirituality, biology, sustainability, environmental science) or an equivalent combination of education and experiences.
