Position Summary
The IT Support Specialist works under direct supervision and is housed within the library's end-user services areas. The IT Support Specialist will shift assigned time between several key areas such as endpoint support services, equipment inventory, mobile computing lending, and student helpdesk support services. The incumbent will be assigned a work schedule in these areas which are in different areas of the building and campus. The incumbent will work with their unit to develop updated department practices on inventory management and the mobile lending program. This position will utilize the ServiceNow platform for completing, creating, and tracking assigned incidents. The successful candidate should possess strong communication skills to assist our students, faculty, and staff and experience with incident reporting software. It is expected that the incumbent can communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
The IT Support Specialist will have several responsibilities/duties that include, but are not limited to:
- Hardware and software support
- Consultation services
- Equipment inventory management and IT workroom coordination
- Laptop lending support and configuration management
- Student help desk support
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The Information and Digital Technologies (IDT) Unit is responsible for providing technology services to Students, Faculty and Staff within the Library and Academic Affairs. IDT is comprised of the following workgroups: End-User services, Servers/Applications, Student Computing Hub, 24/7 Student Area, and Digital Collections. The IDT Division is a team of approximately 35 student employees and 12 professionals who develop and deliver innovative information technology services for teaching, learning and research.

Education and Experience
To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related computing field.
- 1-3 years of professional IT experience in MacOS and Windows OS systems
- Use of customer incident reporting systems. (e.g., ServiceNow)
- Experience with Windows and MacOS operating systems.
- Understanding of Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Intermediary experience using JAMF and Intune to manage computers.
- Experience troubleshooting wired and wireless networks.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve technology related issues.
- Experience providing help desk and/or real-time customer support solutions.
- Ability to work with both oversight and independently to solve technology related issues.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,334 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,713 - $7,149 per month.
