Overview of Residential Learning Coordinator

The Department of Housing and Residential Education is seeking a Residential Learning Coordinator. The Residential Learning Coordinator (RLC) is responsible for creating and supporting a community of 744 on campus residents as well as supervise/aide in the growth and development of 15-18 student staff members. The RLC will oversee the daily operations of the University Village community in conjunction with the Assistant Director for Residential Education and participate in a weekly on-call duty rotation.

Pay:
  • $38,000 - $42,000
Duties and Responsibilities of Residential Learning Coordinator
  • Reports to the Assistant Director for Residential Education and also serves as backup
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, and supervises undergraduate student staff (15-18) within a two-hall residence life system
  • Plans staff development opportunities for graduate and undergraduate student staff members in accordance with the Assistant Director
  • Supports an environment that is conducive to living and learning by ensuring that the undergraduate and graduate student staff are meeting their job responsibilities, completing their programming expectations, having regular floor meetings, and aiding residents in conflict resolution
  • Addresses behavioral concerns within The University Village community
  • Serves as a resident conduct administrator adjudicating low to medium level department conduct cases
  • Responds to emergency or crisis situations in a timely fashion and uses sound judgment to effectively resolve, address, or properly refer concerns to other campus resources
  • Works with residents on a daily basis to answer questions, address concerns, and resolve conflicts
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments across campus to present educational programming to The University Village community
  • Provides expectations and guidance to Resident Assistants and Senior Resident Assistants concerning program responsibilities planned for University Village residents
  • Plan, assist and attend all Move in Day and Welcome Weekend Events
  • Co-Advise Residence Hall Association (RHA)/University Village Council (UVC) with Housing Graduate Assistant

Education of Residential Learning Coordinator
  • Bachelor’s degree required
Experience of Residential Learning Coordinator
  • 1-2 years of experience in the area of Housing/Student Affairs/Counseling as well as have experience in emergency response
  • Previous experience living in a college housing environment and obtained supervisory experience (student staff preferred).
  • Two years of Graduate school experience will count as one year full time experience
Core Competencies Residential Learning Coordinator
  • Must have basic Microsoft Word skills creating correspondance
  • Must have intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel creating spreadsheets using basic formulas
  • Must have database skills using queries and extracting reports
  • Ability to independently manage a variety of projects with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities, to organize a continuous flow of work in a timely manner and meet mandatory deadlines
  • Excellent record keeping and organizational skills with ability to pay strict attention to detail. This position requires independent decision making abilities, outstanding organizational skills, and excellent judgment, and a high level of self motivation and accountability
  • Must exhibit flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to contribute to the successful achievement of personal, unit and department goals
  • Must have the ability to work with diverse groups of individuals as well as be able to show care and empathy. Couseling skills as well as excellent presentation skills are a must for working in this environment
  • Must have knowledge about student development, including experience with student conduct. Experience working with StarRez (or similar system) and Banner software preferred
  • As part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA should be maintained, reviewed and practiced to ensure compliance relative to those applicable duties
