Job Description

Provide support and instruction to new, current, and potential students and parents regarding Syracuse University registration and bursar related rules and regulations in reference to the College of Professional Studies part time, online, and noncredit programs as well as Syracuse University summer programs. Advise SU staff and faculty in the registration and bursar requirements of the College of Professional Studies’ part-time, online, and noncredit students. Manage academic records and financial accounts of assigned student population.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree and/or five (5) years of office experience in a similar position, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Two (2) years of customer service experience is required.
  • PeopleSoft Student Records experience a definite plus.
  • Must be detail oriented, attentive, and able to multitask.
  • Must possess the ability to stay calm under pressure.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Knowledge of University policies, academic rules, academic processes and FERPA guidelines.
  • Demonstrated commitment in providing high quality services and ability to work in a collaborative team, results-oriented, customer-friendly environment.
  • Experience with student information and document imaging systems.
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written and listening skills).
  • Strong decision making and analytical abilities, empathy, and attention to detail.
  • Financial collections experience a plus.
  • The successful candidate must be able to empathize with people and situations while maintaining a level of professionalism and control of the situation and possess strong decision making and analytical abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Reconcile student accounts and monitor for timely payments throughout the semester.
  • Contact students who are late on accounts and counsel on positive payment schedules including authorizing special payment arrangements.
  • Manage the financial holds associated with the student’s ability to register and receive diploma.
  • Analyze past due accounts and exhaust methods available to receive payment.
  • Determine accounts as uncollectable and transfer to Student Debt Management Office for further collection.
  • Direct new and current students through the College of Professional Studies online registration process for credit and non-credit students and assist in areas where students experience limitations and stoppages.
  • Troubleshoot and solve registration issues that result in student ineligibility to register due to course restrictions and financial holds.
  • Coordinate communications necessary to assist the student to a successful registration.
  • Process registrations and payment arrangements for special populations.
  • Monitor and maintain all the College of Professional Studies student financial records.
  • Act as liaison for students with other SU departments and outside agencies to resolve billing concerns.
  • Initiate payment arrangements, determine tuition charges, monitor accounts, and process payments.
  • Determine student eligibility for refunds.
  • Assist students in determining best payment options available to them and update student financial record to reflect selected option.
  • Provide exemplary customer service to Syracuse University part time undergraduates, College of Professional Studies online, non-matriculated and non-credit students to make the overall University experience pleasant and rewarding.
  • Create new College of Professional Studies students and manage the biographic and academic records of all current College of Professional Studies students.
  • Determine legitimacy of student and college records, coordinate necessary changes to academic record with other departments across campus.
  • Update biographic, academic, and financial information that falls under the College of Professional Studies jurisdiction.
