Duties
Serves as the principal deputy to the Provost. Oversees implementation of all USAWC academic policies, including those relating to military and civilian faculty.
Supervises and manages the Office of the Provost, to include Associate Provost, Office of Institutional Assessment, and Office of the Registrar.
Manages academic governance boards to include serving as co-chair of the Deputy's Committee. Sets agendas and moderates meetings.
Manages execution of civilian faculty hiring and management system, to include academic promotions.
Serves as Executive Secretary of the USAWC Board of Visitors (BoV). In conjunction, manages BoV functions and meetings; ensures BoV members meet legal requirements, conducts required training, maintains historical documentation of BoV activities.
Responsible for all aspects of institutional assessment relating to academic policy, academic governance, pedagogy, student learning, support of student learning, faculty development and performance, and program integration.
Formulates and implements assessment policy and annual assessment strategy that explores all relevant components of the USAWC's educational mission and institutional support. Coordinates assessment actions across USAWC enterprise.
Produces reports and recommendations that influence educational policies of the USAWC, Army, Joint Force, and DoD.
Chairs the USAWC Assessment Working Group and advises the Academic Board. Provides guidance and oversees subordinate program analysts.
Responsible for all accreditation activities of the USAWC and serves as liaison officer to three distinct military and civilian accrediting bodies.
Serves as a peer-review team leader on accreditation visits to institutions offering joint professional military education. Serves as a peer evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
Teaches, conducts research, and provides service in accordance with institutional policies.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance with eligibility for special compartmented information.

Qualifications
Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens
The Deputy Provost works directly for the Provost and oversees the work of employees within the Office of the Provost. He/She must have the skills and temperament to help integrate USAWC educational activities across the enterprise and to coordinate with external partners. The selectee must have expertise in a discipline relevant to national security and familiarity with joint professional military education at the senior level. Additionally, he/she must have experience in managerial supervision, federal advisory committees, graduate-levelacademic administration, institutional assessments, military and academic accreditation, academic governance, and human research protections. Finally, the selectee must be able to work collegially at a military institution and operate effectively within the federal and military bureaucracies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject matter field appropriate to the position OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education or in a subject matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
PhD or other terminal degree in a discipline relevant to the USAWC educational mission, e.g., history, political science, management, international relations/studies, etc. is preferred.
Experience managing accreditation programs. Familiarity with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education's "Standards for Accreditation and Requirements for Affiliation" and the "Officer Professional Management Education Policy" (CJCSI 1800.0lF) is desirable.
Experience with academic assessment and/or institutional research.
Experience teaching at the graduate level. Experience teaching joint professional military education, phase II (graduate level), is desirable.
Experience in positions of increasing academic leadership, e.g., Course director, program director, department chair, and/or supervision of military, Title 10 and Title 5 employees.
Deep understanding of Army and Joint military organizations and processes. Established network with organizations such as Joint Staff J7, other professional military education institutions, and civilian academic institutions.
Experience designing, assessing, and updating academic policy.
Superb collaborative skills and experience with change management; demonstrated ability to work collegially with diverse staff, faculty, students, and administrators.
