Summary:

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation and The VCU Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research (CCTR) invites all interested candidates to apply for an exciting opportunity as our Research Navigator. This position's main purpose is to serve as the research navigator and institutional resource for investigators, study teams, research staff and other stakeholders in the university CTR community. Incumbent will develop resources that support CTS projects for the Wright Regional CCTS partner Institutions, demonstrate the effectiveness of the resources, and disseminate effective resources across the CTSA network. Projects should align with the mission and vision of the Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research and identify methods that improve the quality of research projects and human subject's protections by promoting a culture of responsibility while minimizing investigator burden.

Typical Duties:

Clinical and Translational Research Navigation

Facilitate the conduct of clinical and translational science at VCU and partner institutions. Responsibilities include:

Provide a single point of contact for study teams and other stakeholders for the use of Wright Center resources and services
Collaborate with Wright Center communications staff to develop messaging/materials on resources and create a dissemination plan
Develop and execute processes to enhance access, use, and implementation of research resources and services.
Improve efficiency in clinical research by helping resolve problems with and barriers to successful research, including:
Partnering with research professionals in finding solutions to factors preventing the successful progression of their research
Matching identifying researcher needs and goals with Wright Center resources and services
Develop and maintain updated content for the Resource Application and Wright Center website for access and instructions to tools and resources available to study teams that improve the quality and consistency of research and research data
In coordination with the VCU Office of Research, keeping the VCU research community current on regulatory trends impacting their research (e.g. changes to the NIH Common Rule, etc).
Maintain metrics and data needed to assess the impact of resources utilized by the research community.

Education, Training, and Outreach

Develop, implement and disseminate education and outreach materials, programs and tools in a variety of media for websites, newsletters, written materials, etc., and train investigators and study team members in the policies and use of tools and other resources used in the conduct of clinical research. Responsibilities may include:
Develop, implement and evaluate educational programs and materials to enhance the effectiveness and institutional policies related to clinical trials registration and reporting requirements for ClinicalTrials.gov.
Planning and presenting educational workshops and seminars to departments, faculty, and partner institutions on Wright Center Resources
Planning for the implementation and roll-out of new online tools used to improve research study design for new investigators.

Data Management and Reporting

Review and report findings from ClinicalTrial.gov problem reports to the appropriate Office of Research staff. Works with appropriate parties to resolve issues as required. Responsibilities may include:

Creating and overseeing an institution-wide system/database for ClinicalTrials.gov tracking and metrics. Advises the Office of Research of deficiencies.
Uses the ClinicalTrials.gov Protocol Review & Results System (PRS) to:
Create user accounts for study teams;
Review, approve, and release records;
Provide registration assistance to the study team as needed;
Contact Record Owners and Study Officials when there are identified problems;
Work with investigators and study teams to respond to problems and correct records
Oversee internal tracking for reporting and ongoing follow-up with the study team regarding registration and results reporting

Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

BA/BS degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience with an emphasis in the basic sciences, healthcare or database design and management preferred
Demonstrated analytical skills; ability to create ad hoc reports, tracking tools, and professional documents; and the ability to interpret and apply complex government regulations.
High level of competency with computer software, including databases and database management, spreadsheet applications, development and presentation of PowerPoint slides, and training/educational materials.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills;
Ability to translate user questions into data queries, produce useful analytic results, and interpret and present data findings in meaningful ways
Strong problem-solving and time management, including the ability to adapt to frequent changes in work assignments, prioritize, and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
The candidate should have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in public health or another research-focused field
Understanding of institutional and regulatory bodies that approve and monitor research conduct (e.g., DSMB, IRB, Clinicaltrials.gov)
Experience working with database systems in academic research and/or healthcare environment preferred
Experience in a medically related field with demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, including but not limited to billing codes, is preferred.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience to $65,000
