Position Summary

The college is seeking a collaborative transformational leader who will effectively navigate a large multi-campus environment during a time of organizational change. This leader will be expected to incorporate higher education and community college best practices into the practices of the administrative area. The Program Dean for Adult Basic Education, College Success, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) will lead a team of dedicated department chairs, faculty, and staff. The successful candidate will have direct experience and strong knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy and management experience to implement initiatives addressing equity and opportunity gaps in these important areas.

This position, under the direction of the Dean of Academic & Career Pathways for Academic Foundations, Essentials & Gateways, will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating equitable student success in Adult Basic Education, College Success, and ESOL with department chairs and faculty aligned with retention, restorative justice practices, and success metrics. The official responsibilities are to provide broad administrative direction and leadership in the development, assessment, and maintenance of a quality education program.   • Ability to affect and support change by leading and collaboratively supporting faculty and staff in the data-driven design, implementation, and evaluation of student-centered initiatives, with a particular focus on equitable student success through culturally responsive support for individuals and communities with historically marginalized identities (including but not limited to: first-generation students, BIPOC students, queer and transgender students, incarcerated students, and low-income students)
  • Demonstrated experience in collaboratively leading and supervising teams, taking time to understand complex programs, building relationships, and fostering a culture of creative problem solving, continuous improvement, data-driven decision making and accountability, and meaningfully engaging diverse internal and external stakeholders in a large, dynamic system
  • Demonstrated meaningful experience in Adult Education, ESOL, and College Success and Career Guidance that informs a deep understanding of the uniqueness of these programs and their goals, approaches, techniques, needs and resources; demonstrable knowledge of the historical systems and structures that perpetuate a dominant culture of inequity and exploitation.
  • Commitment to leading by example and creating an inclusive and diverse academic community where all members feel valued and supported; a history of promoting equity and inclusion and a willingness to take steps to address any disparities or inequities that exist.
  • Strong organizational, communication, time management, and project management skills to allow the incumbent to appropriately schedule, track, and balance multiple competing priorities and a diversity of needs with grace, consideration, and effectiveness. Exhibits humility and a practice of self-reflection.
Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).
  • Master’s Degree
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience related to the area of assignment, providing program/project management or program/project coordination
  • Three (3) years of management experience, including employee supervision, in higher education or in an industry related to the area of assignment.

Starting Salary Expectations
Minimum $99,575 to range midpoint of $121,979. Placement will generally not exceed the mid-point, based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work environment includes frequent disruptions and changes in priorities. Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Working hours may vary and occasional evening or weekend work is required. Frequent travel to other locations is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.

This position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). Campus Security Authorities must immediately report Clery Act crimes that occurred on Portland Community College’s Clery geography on the Crime Incident Report (CIRTrac™) located on the Department of Public Safety’s Clery Act compliance webpage . Following entry of a report on CIRTrac™ PCC’s Clery Specialist will (1) analyze the report for issuance of a timely warning or emergency notification; and (2) will determine if the report should be included in the annual statistical disclosures. The Clery Specialist shall annually assign CSAs online Clery Act training to ensure they are provided proper training to fulfill their reporting responsibilities required by the Clery Act and PCC’s Clery Act policy.
