Position Summary

The Program Coordinator for Student Organizations is a full-time professional staff position which is part of the Office of University Centers within the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse ( UWL ). In conjunction with the Associate Director of Student Engagement and Leadership, the Program Coordinator for Student Organizations is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of a comprehensive, strategic student organization process. This individual will assume primary responsibility for all Recognized Student Organization ( RSO ) registration, training, and resources. This position will also assume responsibility for programming and administration within the Center for Organizations, Vision, and Engagement ( COVE ). This position will assist in the hiring, training, and direct supervision of undergraduate students. This role will serve as an integral part of a collaborative team of Program Coordinators in the areas of student activities, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Civic Engagement, Leadership Development, and Involvement. This team of Program Coordinators must all be committed to fostering the social, artistic, intellectual, educational, cultural, and recreational development of students through planned programs and activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration, Student Development, Higher Education, or related field from a regionally accredited institution prior to start date is required.
  • Experience working with Student Organizations and/or student activities programs.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the willingness to work and communicate in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Possess a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of student development and experience working with and advising college students.
  • Experience in the planning and management of small to large scale events and programs.
  • Experience with online student organization platform (i.e. ‘Engage’, ‘Presence’, or ‘Campus Groups’).
  • Experience in reviewing and executing performer/activity contracts.
  • Experience working with budgets.
  • Experience supervising graduate assistants, and/or student staff members.
  • Ability to develop student employee training programs.
  • Understanding of the importance of collaboration within the unit and the university.
  • Ability to problem solve and readily adapt to change.
  • An understanding of student development, student life, and university processes and business.
  • Ability to use and adapt to current technology and new technology and software.
  • Ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, student, and external groups.

The Division of Student Affairs’ role is to enhance and support students learning experience here at UWL . We work closely with faculty, staff, community members, alumni and most importantly, students to provide quality programs and services which promote learning, leadership, involvement, service and the celebration of diversity. The Division includes a number of departments: Admissions and Recruitment, Campus Child Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Health Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Life, University Centers, and the Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students office. The staff of the Division is truly student-centered and concerned about the holistic development of the student.

University Centers serves the community by providing a welcoming environment that facilitates learning opportunities, embraces diversity, and enriches the campus experience. University Centers provides operational oversight to the Student Union, the Whitney Dining Center, the Center for Organizations, Vision, and Engagement (the COVE ) and the Leadership and Involvement Center ( LIC ).
