Job Summary:

Under the direction of Department leadership, the incumbent will assist with post award activities for faculty involved in sponsored research, including multi-site research. The incumbent will collaborate with faculty and lab personnel in and outside the organization. Responsibilities are driven as priorities arise.

Responsibilities:

Works directly with principal investigator and research staff to budget, monitor expenditures, and reconcile financial data for sponsored programs. May directly process and/or approve accounting transactions such as cost transfers, procurement, sub award management, and financial processing related to sponsored project management. May review and approve transactions on behalf of an intermediate unit or center.
  • 20% Assists principal investigators with financial management of sponsored program budgets and directs day-to-day fiscal transactions
  • 20% Prepares and processes financial reporting and/or invoicing information
  • 20% Provides expertise and advice related to procurement and allowable charges
  • 20% Reviews financial expenditures for accuracy on sponsored grants and contracts
  • 20% Assists lab(s) with research administration activities, including but not limited to proposal preparation and reporting, routing of contracts, purchasing, payments to subjects/vendors or other activities to support the research needs of the lab(s)

Education:

Preferred
Associate's Degree
Accounting or closely related field such as business or finance preferred

Qualifications:

Required Experience:
- 1-2 years of research administration or accounting
- Experience working with complex accounting systems, software, and processes
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience in academic medical setting
- Experience and knowledge of UW accounting system
- Prior experience working in pre and post award, grant management or finance
- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret state statutes, federal regulations, administrative rules, and university, college, and department policies
- Knowledge of Basic Accounting Principles and Practices and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
