COMMUNITY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT EDUCATOR (FOND DU LAC & WASHINGTON COUNTY)

Minimum $54,550 ANNUAL (12 months)

Job Summary:

This position is a part of the Division of Extension Positive Youth Development Institute, with a focus within the Community Youth Development Program. The Institute supports programs that engage Wisconsin youth in opportunities they need to learn, lead, grow, and thrive. The ideal candidate is adept at building and maintaining trust-based relationships, engaging stakeholders and applying an equity lens towards transforming lives and communities. As such, candidates are expected to foster and promote the values of diversity and inclusion.

This Educator position will primarily serve Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. They will work to design, deliver, and evaluate research-based educational programming and services aligned with the position's programmatic focus of Civic Engagement:
- Leading positive youth development issue-based programming to improve youth development outcomes across the community, with a focus on underserved and underrepresented audiences.
- Connecting youth with adults, places, and processes where decisions are made about their community (local government, non-profit organizations, philanthropic organizations, grassroots organizations, school boards, community health coalitions, etc.)
- Supporting community efforts to engage youth in entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and community development opportunities
- Supporting and growing youth representation in governing boards and committees, including City of Fond du Lac Youth in Governance program.

Community Youth Development Intentionally strengthens the capacity of community-based organizations, including schools, colleges, universities, local government and nonprofits and connects young people with opportunities provided by partners. ( https://youth.extension.wisc.edu/ )

The position functions in a fast-paced, multi-faceted, respectful office. It offers a great deal of day-to-day variety, including program development and implementation, building and maintaining key stakeholder relationships, and working closely with other county educators and state-level specialists. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills to foster a collegial working environment.

Responsibilities:

Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
  • 20% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 15% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 30% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 15% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 5% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 5% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 10% Communicate plans, activities and achievements to Area Extension Director, Program Managers, partners, and relevant stakeholders

Qualifications:

Required:
- At least 2 years of relevant field and work experience in the area of programming and service delivery such as youth program development and delivery, education, prevention, etc.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments including demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively; and
- Ability to effectively work with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity.

Preferred:
- Ability to work cooperatively and develop partnerships or coalitions with other agencies, community-based services, or organizations to address educational needs;
- Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high-quality work;
- Demonstrated skill in interpreting, utilizing, and applying evidence-based information and research findings;
- Demonstrated success in developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs for diverse audiences utilizing a variety of educational techniques, methods, and modes; and
- Demonstrated experience developing effective partnerships or coalitions with community partners and local governments.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Additional Information:

- The primary accountability relationship for this position is the Area 15 Extension Director for supervision, compensation and benefits and performance reviews;
- This position's primary programming focus is shared between Fond du Lac and Washington Counties; however some programming will also be conducted over a broader geographical area;
- Expectation to make arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions;
- Work evenings or weekends as needed to meet programming needs. Candidates could expect to work 1-2 evenings per month and a few weekends throughout the year.
