MS Assistant Principal for Student Life

Sidwell Friends, a PK-12 Quaker day school located in Washington, DC seeks an Assistant Principal for its Middle School (Grades 5-8) division.

The Assistant Principal is responsible for student discipline, including family meetings and communication related to discipline and academics; serves on various committees, including the Middle School Admissions committees; helps to manage the 5/6 and 7/8 Middle School schedules and class placement, including coordinating and communicating changes as needed; helps to coordinate special schedules; coordinates the 8th to 9th grade transition with Upper School; attends weekly meetings of the Student Support Team; shares responsibility for faculty evaluation with the Principal; shares oversight of the Middle School Curriculum with the Principal and Academic Dean; takes on leadership of tasks as assigned; and generally supports the daily life and running of the Middle School, with a focus on student culture and program.

The Assistant Principal is expected to attend evening and weekend events such as dances or other student social events and transition meetings for parents. This person will also serve as the acting Principal when the Principal is unavailable or absent. 

Experience and comfort working with data management systems is necessary. Previous experience in administration and /or leadership roles and at least five years of classroom teaching are required.

This is a 12-month, full-time position and begins on July 1, 2023. A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree is preferred.
