Project Archivist

Labriola National American Indian Data Center

Collections Services & Analysis

The Labriola National American Indian Data Center at ASU Library seeks a Project Archivist to join our team to realize a three-year grant-funded project (2023 - 2026).  This position will engage with Tribal Nation partners in Arizona using a community-based participatory approach to archives development and management. As a representative of ASU, the Project Archivist is responsible for cultivating relationships and liaising with the Tribal Nations and communities identified for this project and collaborating with our ASU School of Law partners. Together, we will co-develop intellectual and cultural property licenses or memoranda and collaboratively arrange, describe, and provide access to Indigenous archival materials.  The Project Archivist works with community partners to ensure the appropriate disposition of collections; processes archival materials; and may prepare materials for reformatting, digitization, preservation, and access.

Reporting to the Director of the Labriola National American Indian Data Center at Arizona State University, the Project Archivist leads archives work within the context of the project, leads toolkit development, and ensures alignment with university policies and practices. A successful candidate will have experience working with Indigenous communities and strong knowledge of archives, can employ a team-based approach to problem-solving, and is able to see complex projects through to successful completion.
