Your Commitment

The College of Health Sciences invites applications for positions Nursing faculty at Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer and Clinical Instructor ranks.

Reporting to the Department Head, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of a broad range of courses in nursing, including medical-surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health, and high intensity neonatal care. S/he will evaluate student progress and manage the resources of the learning environment.  The successful candidate will liaise with industry and other educational institutions; participate in industry advisory committees and coordinate, manage and control projects within the specified program area. Faculty members will keep course portfolio documents required for accreditation processes and engage in instructional development/improvement plans. All employees are expected to contribute to professional and community life within the University and beyond.

Skills Required for the Role

For Associate Professor & Assistant Professor

Education

  • PhD or Doctorate in Nursing, or in a health-related field. Those whose PhD or Doctorate is not in nursing must hold an undergraduate or graduate degree in nursing.
  • All candidates must hold registration as a nurse, with good standing. 

Experience

  • Demonstrated record of academic experience & nursing practice.
  • Experience in teaching nursing at a post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years full-time equivalent recent clinical practice experience; preference will be given to candidates who have clinical nursing practice in high intensity neonatal care.
  • Demonstrated competence with curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated use diverse & current teaching approaches in the classroom & for practice experiences including the laboratory, simulation, & practicums.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of educational technology & platforms.
  • Demonstrated academic & information literacy skills.
  • Consideration will be given to candidates who have: mentored/preceptored nursing students during practice practicums; &/or, a minimum of 8 years full-time equivalent of clinical nursing experience.

Scholarship and Research

  • Demonstrated accomplishment in advancement or contributions to health-related knowledge through applied research & publication and knowledge dissemination.
  • Preference given to candidates with demonstrated contribution to curriculum development & to teaching & learning.

For Senior Lecturer and Lecturer

Education

  • Master’s in Nursing or in a health-related field. For those whose Master’s is not in nursing, they must hold an undergraduate degree in nursing.
  • All candidates must hold registration as a nurse, with good standing.

Experience

  • Experience in teaching nursing at a post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years full-time equivalent recent clinical practice experience; preference will be given to candidates who have clinical nursing practice in high intensity neonatal care.
  • Demonstrated ability to use diverse & current teaching approaches in the classroom & for practice experiences including the laboratory, simulation, and practicums.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of educational technology & platforms.
  • Demonstrated academic & information literacy skills.
  • Consideration will be given to candidates who have: mentored/preceptored nursing students during practice practicums; &/or, a minimum of 8 years full-time equivalent of clinical nursing experience.

Scholarship and Research

Demonstrated performance in scholarship that contributes to the advancement of nursing practice; advancement of health-related knowledge; &/or, health-related curriculum development & pedagogy.

For Clinical Instructor

Education

  • Master’s in Nursing is preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates who have an undergraduate nursing degree with at least 8 years full-time of current nursing experience in a clinical setting.
  • All candidates must hold registration as a nurse, with good standing.

Experience

  • Preference given to those with experience teaching nursing practice in a post-secondary institution &/or mentoring/precepting nursing students during practice practicums; especially to those who have clinical nursing practice in high intensity neonatal care.
  • Master’s prepared candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years full-time equivalent recent clinical practice experience; Undergraduate prepared candidates must have a minimum of 8 years full-time equivalent recent (within 6 months) clinical practice experience.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use diverse & current teaching approaches for practice; experiences including the laboratory, simulation, and practicums.
  • Demonstrate academic & information literacy skills.

Scholarship and Research

Demonstrated aptitude for scholarship that contributes to the advancement of teaching & learning of nursing practice; & to use a variety of educational technology & platforms.
