The School of Education (SoE) has a primary mission of preparing teachers and administrators of quality and distinction. Preparing teachers and administrators is a campus-wide responsibility, with faculty and administrators involved in support of the program’s mission. The joint efforts of students, faculty and administrators focus on improving the quality of learning in classrooms in elementary, secondary, higher education and educational leadership. The School of Education is part of the College of Health, Education, & Nursing and offers undergraduate teaching programs in art, early childhood education, elementary education, English, math, music, physical education, science, social studies, and Spanish and graduate programs in art education, curriculum & instruction, early childhood education (birth to age 8), early learning education (K-6), educational leadership, English education, world language education, health and physical education, instructional technology, linguistically-diverse education, music education, space studies education, and special education. Additionally, the School of Education is offering an online doctoral degree in education (Ed.D) that is designed to generate highly-qualified administrators for P-12 and higher education. The degree will adhere to CDHE administrator licensure requirements.

The SoE reflects the mission of the university by emphasizing the integration of pertinent skills across the curriculum and a commitment to excellence in serving a diverse student population. The program’s conceptual framework, Building and Bridging Communities of Learners, has led to the development of a network of partner schools and outreach activities to regional school districts, as well as strong co-curricular activities for students and a co-teaching model of student teaching. The demand for highly-qualified educators and administrators in rural and southern Colorado has resulted in a need for flexible programs, providing more access to the field of education. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to become a member of a growing, vital program in teacher education and development. All educator licensure programs are authorized by the Colorado Department of Education and Colorado Commission on Higher Education.
