SALARY:

$45,300 - $56,600+ per year DOE. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

Provide professional career planning services in the students' pre-clinical years, including self-assessment, career exploration, and decision making for medical students, to guide students in making appropriate specialty and residency decisions and to develop and support student's career goals.

Essential Job Functions

Career Counseling Duties
  • Serves as an integral member of the Student Affairs team.
  • Execute the career advising program to guide and support students holistically in the clarification and development of their personal and professional goals, and promote student development by providing information and referral to campus specialty organizations, professional national memberships & conferences.
  • Council and support students in the ongoing development of their personal brand, documentation, and career exploration through the delivery of one-on-one and group career advising sessions, resources, career exploration and development workshops, activities and networking events utilizing resources such as the Careers in Medicine (CIM) website and professional development workshops.
  • Provide career counseling for student in the COM and in the MMS program.
  • Collaborate with key campus stakeholders establish and deliver progressive co-curricular programs to help students demonstrate key competencies, including communication and interpersonal skills, and professionalism.
  • Recognize different types of crises and refer students to campus/community resources as deemed appropriate.
  • Provide support and guidance for CV and personal brand development.
  • Organize and facilitate year-round strategic student advising communication campaigns.
  • Provide students with resources and opportunities to develop a professional portfolio to support the tracking of student curricular, co-curricular and personal progress.
  • Engender student development by providing information and referral to campus specialty organizations, professional national memberships & conference
  • Participate in preliminary preparation of the MSPE by assisting students to develop comprehensive Noteworthy Characteristics.
  • Prioritize program content based on emerging national data and trends to enhance professional development aimed at assisting students to acquire crucial competencies to continuously yield compelling future residency candidates.

Student Affairs General Duties
  • Perform ongoing assistance with Student Affairs events and activities.
  • Participate in regular collaboration meetings with counterparts on Utah Campus.
  • Have a clear understanding of all university and college academic policies; and work on a daily basis with other entities across campus.
  • Help students navigate institutional policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant and Associate Dean of Student Affairs
  • Participate in community and professional outreach activities on behalf of the college and university.
  • Help build a culture that respects, values, and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher, from an accredited institution in related field, such as Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, Social Work, Educational Psychology, Counseling, etc.
  • Two years full-time experience working at an accredited university, health profession college, or medical school.
  • Experience in leadership roles and/or performing leadership responsibilities


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • Three years of full-time experience working at an accredited university, health profession college, or medical school.
  • Experience with student advising and/or academic support services.
