Reports to: Vice President for Finance and Administration

 

 

 

Job Summary: Performs a wide range of difficult-to-complex administrative activities related to maintaining the accounting systems and records to assure financial reporting integrity; implementation and monitoring of the budget; preparation of financial reports and statements in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles; and oversight for payroll, accounts payable, general accounting, auditing, and accounts receivable; assists the Vice President for Finance and Administration in financial planning and policy matters.

 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities  

 

  • Reviews financial information used in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Develops and maintains the internal audit control system. Coordinates the development, implementation and maintenance of financial accounting systems. Coordinates the annual financial statement and retirement audits. Prepares the monthly financial statements and oversees distribution to the campus community. Prepares the annual corporate tax return, annual report of employee benefit tax returns, and trust tax returns. Forecasts revenues, expenditures, and year-end balances. Reviews and monitors actual performance versus the budget. Communicates with the departments about operating procedures and controls. Assists in the development of special reports for use by the board of trustees. Acts as the Vice President for Finance and Administration in his/her absence.

 

  • Performs related duties as required or assigned for the effective operation of the college. Supervises the accountant and student accounts / accounts receivable manager.

 

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

 

  • Thorough knowledge of and expertise with the principles, practices, and techniques of non-profit and/or college and university accounting and budgeting. Ability to develop, implement, maintain, and monitor computerized systems. Ability to understand, interpret, and explain policies and procedures. Proficiency with accounting software applications and Excel. Competent in Microsoft Word. Ability to hire, supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff. Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and accomplish objectives in a timely manner. Ability to handle and resolve problems. Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, faculty, and the general public. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Effective written and verbal skills.

 

 

Credentials and Experience  

 

  • Possession of a bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance or related area. Four years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, of which two years were in supervisory capacity. Preference given to MBA and/or CPA certification.
