Position Summary:
The University of Idaho Architecture Program is seeking educators who are enthusiastic about architecture, excited to teach design, love working with students, have a strong desire to work collaboratively, demonstrate an ability to do high-quality research, and are determined to make a difference in the world. All candidates should demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills.

Emphasis: History/Theory + Design Pedagogy The primary focus of this search is for a candidate that can exhibit inventiveness and expertise in teaching design studio, with an expertise in teaching and producing research in the area of architectural history and theory.The architecture program is seeking candidates who can communicate the power of effective design in their own work, be able to discuss the intellectual investments of both their work and their design pedagogy, and provide examples of innovative approaches to design teaching; the program is interested in candidates that have concentrations that intersect with issues of underrepresented populations. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach required coursework in support of the accredited professional degree (M.Arch), specifically history and/or theory survey lecture courses and graduate-level seminars. The successful candidate will be able to use written scholarship and/or creative work to both deepen and make explicit the connections between their research interests and their teaching. The successful candidate will be able to articulate a clear research agenda with a commitment to producing peer-reviewed work. Finally, we hold in the highest regard those candidates who not only exemplify the qualities described above, but who are energetic, collegial, and highly motivated to contribute to the greater good of a successful and dynamic architecture program.

Responsibilities:(1) Teaching design studios and required architectural history and theory lecture courses at undergraduate and graduate levels; (2) leading a focused architectural history and/or theory graduate seminar once a year; (3) producing peer-reviewed scholarship and/or creative work; (4) performing service through program, college, and university committees as well as service beyond the university.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Candidates must hold a terminal degree in architecture (Master of Architecture or equivalent) or research-based Master of Science or PhD in Architecture or a closely related field.
  • Candidates must have a record of innovative research and/or practice in architecture.
  • Candidates must have at least 2 years of architecture teaching experience and be able to show work that demonstrates student achievement.





Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD with a focus on architectural history and theory; or equivalent experience university level-teaching (4+ years) and producing peer-reviewed scholarship in these areas of architectural research (4+ years) and a post professional Master’s degree.
