Position Summary

Trinity College seeks a staff that reflects the changing demographics of our student body. Our student body is diverse, representing 41 states and 70 countries, with 21 percent U.S. students of color and 50 percent who identify as women. More than 90 percent of students live on campus. Trinity is a highly selective, independent, nonsectarian liberal arts institution located in the capital city of Hartford, Connecticut. With more than 2,100 full-time undergraduate students and 91 graduate students, the college maintains a rigorous academic profile complemented by a vibrant and diverse co-curricular program. We consider our location in a culturally and socioeconomically diverse capital city to be among Trinity’s most distinctive assets, and we cultivate strong connections with our surrounding neighbors and with institutions and organizations throughout Hartford and the region. As a preeminent liberal arts college in an urban setting, Trinity College prepares students to be bold, independent thinkers who lead transformative lives.

The Office of Communications and Marketing is responsible for elevating the profile of Trinity College and engaging various audiences and constituencies within its community. Trinity College seeks a talented and creative photographer and producer of digital content to join a highly collaborative strategic and collaborative team. With a focus on expanding social media and digital communications efforts prior to and during the Bicentennial year, this person will play a key role in the work of engaging the Trinity College community and expanding the College’s reputation and stories externally. We are looking for a highly talented creative professional with demonstrated experience and the skill to produce multimedia projects that support strategic frameworks of institutional importance. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter and a multi-talented creative producer capable of envisioning projects native to the digital platform. At the heart of this job is the clear skill of storytelling and an endless desire to create the most effective, innovative, and compelling content.
  • Acts as the primary photographer for the Office of Communications and Marketing. Collaborates with colleagues to determine visual stories and editorial photography throughout the College’s primary channels. Content will include photography for the College’s website, social media, magazine, and other publications—as well as assignments for other campus partners. This is a highly collaborative team that requires weekly collaboration among directors, content producers, writers, multimedia producer, design director, and marketing liaisons.
  • Collaborates strongly as a team with a fellow Multimedia Producer, who is focused on video and podcasts. Supports video and podcast work as needed. If assigned multimedia projects, this person will be an adept communicator who can tactfully manage realistic expectations through accurate time estimates and timely updates. Listens well to understand context and strategic needs of campus partners within an established brand. This person will manage the production of alumni engagement tools such as livestreamed alumni panel events (i.e., Virtual Long Walk) and other work associated with the Bicentennial.
  • Acts as a copywriter for a range of materials, including short form and digital-based copy (i.e., social media, deep captions, descriptions, website copy) as well as longer-form marketing copy within an established editorial style guide with minimal supervision.
  • Acts as the primary manager of PhotoShelter, the College’s main digital asset management tool for photography. This person should be familiar with establishing and managing taxonomy for tagging and working with others to distribute and manage access to the digital asset management platform. Coordinates with other photographers when needed.
  • Contributes as a digital strategist. Seeks to understand, assess, and apply technology trends to increase innovation or efficiency. Has a strong sense of best practices in digital communications and a strong willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Other duties as necessary and assigned by the Vice President.
Qualifications

Minimal Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Must have at least 10 or more years of experience producing professional digital content.
  • A portfolio of professional photography is required.
  • Must be an excellent producer and project manager with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing and handling multiple projects.

  • Experience with podcast production a plus.
  • Video, photography, and digital design skills are extremely desirable.
  • A demonstrated understanding of social media, email, and digital engagement strategy.
  • Experienced collaborator who excels in working with others toward a common goal.
  • Demonstrated creative and entrepreneurial thinking, and the ability to identify innovative engagement opportunities.
  • Value Trinity’s commitment to inclusiveness; demonstrate respect and commitment to diversity.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Marketing or communications experience in higher education or a non-profit setting.
  • Experience with video and photography software (e.g, Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge, FinalCut, Adobe Premiere).
  • Experience with audio recording and editing software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition).
  • Design tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva Pro, are an added plus.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and/or CRM systems.
  • Experience with content management systems, such as WordPress.
