Job Description and Expectations

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Vice President for Development

 

The Development officer raises funds from private sources (individuals, corporations, foundations) for the university. This individual reports to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in development work. Demonstrated success in identifying and securing fundraising relationships with individuals/families, corporate and foundation leaders. Previous experience with non-profit fundraising. Proven track record of successful gift/grant acquisition from diverse organizations and institutions in collaborative project-based environments. Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Experience working on a capital campaign a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development to articulate a strategy for securing funds in support of the university’s priorities from private sources. Perform prospect research for large gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and provide stewardship for a portfolio of major individual/family donors. Manage the prospect pipeline and successfully convert prospects into long-term supporters. Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.

•     Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors.

 

  • Provide stewardship to current corporate and foundation donors. Work with appropriate faculty to develop proposals to corporate, foundations and private funding prospects. Establish and maintain relationships with private corporations and organizations as appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources. Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research. Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies. ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals. Strong editing skills. Ability to meet deadlines. Experience with grant writing a plus.

SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development in accordance with provisions of the Jarvis Christian University Administrative Policies and Procedures Manual.
