Director- Center for Student Involvement - (STA012047)



Directs the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) and provides leadership, guidance and support to ensure the vision and strategic initiatives are achieved to provide an environment that promotes student participation and engagement within the campus, local and global community.

  1. Directs the daily operations and long-range strategic planning of CSI and provides organization and administrative oversight of campus-wide programs and services including major campus events, student-led programming initiatives, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and civic engagement opportunities.
  2. Directs the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of staff and student personnel. Manages a training program to provide initial and on-going training and coaching to support professional development, performance management, planning and mentoring efforts.
  3. Provides leadership and guidance on risk management and liability issues related to programs, events and RSOs; ensures all CSI staff receives related training.
  4. Designs and implements policies and procedures for the program and reviews and interprets UH policies and procedures relating to RSOs and event registration; implements new practices as needed.
  5. Develops relationships and collaborates with faculty, staff, students, campus units and academic colleges to ensure programs and services support student learning, the university's mission, and the division's strategic plan.
  6. Provides leadership, guidance and support for major campus events and traditions including, Frontier Fiesta, Homecoming and evening/weekend programming.
  7. Analyzes trends within program areas, maintaining expert awareness of program information and their changing needs.
  8. Develops and implements a system of qualitative and quantitative indicators used to assess and evaluate program effectiveness. Directs the preparation of and reviews reports and records of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specified program objectives; implements changes as needed.
  9. Prepares and monitors the annual department budget and fee-funded student organizations advised by CSI; prepares proposals to obtain grants from governmental and private agencies.
  10. Serves as a liaison to other University departments and serves on university committees as assigned. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications :

Bachelors and 5 years experience

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing: None.

Additional Job Posting Information:
Master’s degree in student development, counseling, or related discipline is strongly preferred. Previous experience as a Director of Student Involvement/Engagement and/or significant supervisory experience at a large public institution is preferred. Occasional evening and weekend work is required; sometimes heavy during major events (Frontier Fiesta, Homecoming, Weeks of Welcome, etc.) Successful candidates will embrace a student-centered philosophy and the ability to work with a diverse student population.
