The Aquatics Program Director will oversee all aspects of the University of Houston Campus Recreation aquatic programs and facilities including the day to day operations for the 70 meter (3 million gallon) indoor competition pool, outdoor leisure pool with slide and spray features, as well as two spas (indoor and outdoor) and dry sauna. Responsibilities for operations of risk management, pool maintenance, chemical treatments and balancing, pool scheduling capital equipment planning and replacement; as well as planning and executing high profile swimming and diving meets.

  1. Directs the recruitment, selection, supervision, evaluation, and coordination of full-time staff as well as indirect supervision of 80 or more part time aquatic staff. Responsible for professional development and training for staff and provide guidance to ensure program initiatives are accomplished. Assign responsibilities and provide feedback to staff to promote growth and development.
  2. Directs the day to day operations of one indoor competition pool, one outdoor leisure pool and two spas including; identify and execute preventive, routine, and deferred maintenance, anticipate and correct facility issues related to mechanical/filtration systems to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards.
  3. Inspect facilities, analyze malfunctions to identify repairs, adjust and calibrate controls for air and water quality, and adjust pool chemicals to ensure proper water chemistry. Operate and maintain Colorado Timing Systems scoreboard, timing and scoring equipment.
  4. Direct planning for aquatic program by establishing and executing short and long-term goals, develop and administer assessments/evaluations related to student learning outcomes, evaluations of programs, services, and staff; develop and administer the aquatic budget of approximately $600,000, maintain financial record maintenance, and payroll process; meet yearly revenue goals in excess of $125,000; create and maintain various annual and semiannual reports as needed.
  5. Evaluate, develop and implement the comprehensive aquatic emergency action plan, provide feedback regarding the departmental emergency action plan.
  6. Serve on the departmental risk management committee, oversee the Red Manikin Drill Team, and assist with planning and execution of departmental risk and safety initiatives including staff training, risk and safety equipment, inspections, and audits. Assess, evaluate and mitigate risk for all aquatic facilities and programs to ensure the facility is compliant with university, local, state standards and industry standards.
  7. Analyze and execute facility scheduling for aquatic programs, departmental programs, Varsity swim and dive practices, competitions, student organizations, university departments, and external guests. Create and submit rental contracts for long term partners, as well as one time renters including, creating invoices and quotes, ensuring university procedures are completed, and income tracking. Plan and execute event logistics related to facilities, and equipment, including contingency plans.
  8. Participates in on call shift rotation for pool operations including nights, weekends and university holidays.
  9. Serve as the point of contact for all aquatic rentals and events; facilitate day of event operations of major and national swim and dive meets (ie. Men's and Women's AAC Championships, Men's and Women's WAC Championships, Gulf Swimming LSC events, High School Invitational and Regionals), and special events.
  10. Provide guidance and oversight of all aquatic related programs including certification courses, swim instruction, SCUBA, and serve as the liaison to the American Red Cross. Serves on department and division committees, and preform special projects. Perform other job-related duties as required

Qualifications :

Bachelors and 5 years experience

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program Requires a minimum of five (5) year of directly job-related experience that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
