The Security Specialist A exercises independent judgment in performing duties associated with physical and personnel security. Performs routine security checks; reports unusual circumstances. Maintains watch on entrances and exits. Maintains logs, prepares and receives authorizations for personnel and equipment exit and entry. Implements crowd control procedures and regulates personnel traffic flow. Administers first aid and calls medical aid in cases of accidents or emergency illnesses. Understands organizational structure of the College, knows key personnel for notification purposes.

Specific Responsibilities
• Assign patrol details to officers on shift (as Officer in Charge).

• Review, correct and file written reports in an electronic reporting system.

• Review previous shift's log entries in both written and electronic form, assignments completed, information board for preparation of shift duties.

• Communicate with out going and on coming shift supervisors on all activities of the department.

• Respond to all incidents to ensure officers are in line with standing operating procedures.

• Supervise security task at college functions involving large numbers of persons.

• Operates CCTV , access control and ID badge systems. Ability to use computer network environment.

• Communicate with manager on issues of office behavior, attendance, and poor performance.

• Review accountability S.O.P. for issues regarding equipment, lost and found practices, and so forth.

• Oversee other security personnel in their duties.

• Provide executive transportation as needed.

• Exercises duties with unobtrusive, courteous and firm manner. The Security Specialist A is expected to exhibit a quality of work and knowledge of functions beyond that of the Security Specialist B, and may provide oversight to other security personnel.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Minimum of two (2) years experience in security related work required.

• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

• Certification in CPR and first aid required, or be obtained during probationary period.

• Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds required.

Preferred Qualifications
• Associates degree in criminal justice preferred. Any and all degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor.

• Must possess and maintain a current valid driver's license is preferred.

• Operational experience with radio systems preferred.
