Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates must have a master’s degree, preferably in student development, higher education, counseling, public health, business or a related field.
  • A candidate should have at least 10 years of progressive administrative experience.
  • Experience in staff supervision, program development and implementation, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Candidates must show evidence of progressive leadership experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills including excellent writing skills, policy development and oversight.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs is a member of the leadership team of the Division of Student Affairs and reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. The Assistant Vice Chancellor is responsible for providing leadership for the Division and its departments in the areas of wellness and prevention, counseling and psychological services, recreation, health services, and co-curricular programs and services designed to enhance the student life experience. This position is responsible for supervising four departmental directors and others who lead programs within the Division. The Assistant Vice Chancellor serves as the primary liaison from the leadership team to each unit in their portfolio. These departments have combined budgets in excess of $9,000,000, approximately 90 full-time employees, and 300 student staff members. As Assistant Vice Chancellor, this position provides leadership, vision, and support for the areas under its supervision, along with serving as a resource for the Vice Chancellor. Additionally, the Assistant Vice Chancellor will represent the Division on various committees and work teams at the University.

The Assistant Vice Chancellor has specific responsibility for:
  • Supervision and support of the directors of, and provide general leadership for Wellness & Prevention, Student Health Services, Counseling & Psychological Services, and University Recreation;
  • Coordinating efforts of the Division to further the mission and strategic plan of the University.
  • Providing vision, leadership and coordination for the Division in the area of student health and wellbeing, through its programs, services, and the work of our staff and students;
  • Coordinates the integration of services provided by Wellness & Prevention, Student Health Services, Counseling & Psychological Services, and University Recreation;
  • Collaborating with each departmental director supervised and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs to develop budgets that reflect the mission and strategic plan of the University, and the divisional and departmental priorities for serving our students;
  • Works closely with the Dean of Students on various committees, initiatives, and projects;
  • Develop and implement assessment and evaluation timelines and plans;
  • Pursue grants and additional funding opportunities to enhance the student experience;
  • Collaborate and engage with faculty, staff, students, parents/guardians, and university constituents on a regular basis;
  • Engaging non-university affiliated healthcare and public health entities in the development and/or modification of student-health and wellness services;
  • Engaging students across the University through a strong commitment to their growth and development including a high level of visibility and support for their programs and activities;
  • Maintaining a high level of awareness for trends and developments in the areas of student affairs, health & wellness, and higher education that impacts our students, and engaging in continuous professional development for the benefit of our students.
  • Serving as an adjunct instructor at the University for classes coordinated by the division; and
  • Providing support and leadership in other areas assigned by the Vice Chancellor.
Suggested Salary Range
$135,000 - $140,000
