Job Description:

The Student Services Specialist position is a full-time professional position. The Student Services Specialist will assist the Director in the implementation of the Educational Talent Search grant project; provide counseling services that will enable students to develop personal, educational, and career goals; coordinate and maintain communication with students, families, and community resource agencies to enhance the welfare of the participants; and provide a variety of educational services in a positive and professional manner to low income, potential first generation college students, students with disabilities, and their families. Additionally, the Student Services Specialist will provide assessment of middle school students’ eligibility and needs; conduct program visits with project participants; plan, schedule/coordinate college tours and cultural events; maintain student records; and provide statistical data pertaining to student participation, attendance, and other project factors. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively with a diverse group of students, parents, faculty, staff, and other personnel within the College and public school systems. In order to meet grant project objectives, the Student Services Specialist will be required to travel in-district on a regular basis and occasionally may be required to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings. This position reports to the Program Director, Educational Talent Search. This is a grant funded position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field is required. Two years experience in career counseling, recruitment services, academic advising, student services to individuals, or in public school teaching is required. Successful results of a background check are required.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer experience working with people from culturally diverse low-income homes, and students with disabilities; coordinating educational projects and activities; documented public speaking experience; and working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (including Word, Access, and Excel).

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $37,000.
