Job Summary/Basic Function

This position description is for a part-time Nurse Aide Non-Credit Instructor within the area of the Workforce Training Division. This person will report to the Vice President for Business, Technology, Allied Health and Workforce Training with daily direction from the Business Development Manager. The primary responsibility is to facilitate effective instruction of courses as well as support promotion and recruitment of the program as time permits to meet allocated hours.

Minimum Qualifications

- Active unrestricted Michigan registered nurse (RN) license.
- A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience as a registered nurse within the last 5 years immediately preceding the application, including teaching in a health care related field or a job that requires the use of the nursing competencies.
- At least 1 year (1600 hours) of which must be in the provision of long-term care facility services, i.e., a participating CMS facility, experience in providing skilled nursing care services to individuals that require non-hospital residential medical, nursing or rehabilitative services. Long term care facilities may include nursing homes, hospital long term care units, county medical care facilities, homes for the aged, assisted living facilities, hospice and other like provider types."
- Must have completed a course in teaching adults or have experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse aides.
- At the time of hire, the trainer will need to apply to the State of Michigan for approval and obtainment of the required credentials listed above.

- Willingness to stay current of state and federal requirements for a nurse aide training program ( NATP ).

This position will teach ten (10) Nurse Aide trainings per year. Each training is up to 120 hours in length.

Travel requirement

This position may require travel to other location sites to teach Bay College Nurse Aide trainings.

Job Duties

Job Duty
  • Accountable for the classroom, laboratory, and clinical practicum
  • Is onsite and available during 100% of the classroom, laboratory, and clinical teaching time
  • Delivers course work using contemporary teaching strategies and practices
  • Accurately record student daily attendance and Student Achievement Records (SARs) for all students during and immediately following completion of each class
  • Follows and enforces student guidelines
  • Attends and participates in program Advisory meeting
  • Participants in the planning and evaluation of each segment of the curriculum
  • Maintain classroom environment that is conducive to learning and active participation.
  • Demonstrate proper skill techniques for Nurse Aide students and observe and guide students in their own mastery of skills.
  • Maintains classroom in good physical order
  • Manages program supplies
  • Enters classroom at designated time with all necessary material.
  • Begins and ends class and scheduled times and follows scheduled student break times.
  • Manage clinic compliance and student compliance paperwork
  • Coordinate Headmaster State testing student enrollment
  • Coordinate Headmaster State testing schedule
  • Other duties as assigned
