Job Summary/Basic Function
As the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, this position is responsible for managing an intercollegiate basketball program to include recruiting, instructing, and coaching students and coordinating various program related activities. The head coach of the Women’s Basketball Coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Bay College and the National Junior College Athletic Association.
This individual will serve as an Assistant Athletic Director with either responsibilities of compliance/game day management OR sports information director for the Norse Athletics Department.
Minimum Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• Three (3) years of experience of program or project management.
• One (1) to three (3) years of coaching experience.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience using technology software programs.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends and possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations.
Compliance/game day management:
• Experience in compliance and game management at the intercollegiate level preferred.
• Experience with statistical software (i.e. NJCAA Admin Portal, StatCrew, Live Stats, SIDEARM, Boxcast, Hudl, Presto).

SID :
• Experience in sports information and game management at the intercollegiate level preferred.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (ie. InDesign, Photoshop) preferred.

Job Duty
Head Women’s Basketball Coach:
- Teach sport skills, condition and motivate student-athletes to positive action and utilize effective strategies to produce a successful student experience.
- Monitor student-athlete attendance, academic progress and graduation.
- Oversee and monitor the conduct of the student-athletes and under the direction of the Athletic Director, oversee discipline of student-athletes if necessary.
- Monitor recruitment needs, recruit a sufficient number of new student-athletes annually and retain current student-athletes, in accordance with NJCAA rules and regulations, through scouting, attending games/tournaments, and home visits.
- Assist student-athletes going through eligibility requirements/compliance paperwork.
- Plan, prepare and administer practice plans and competitive strategy plans.
- Work with the Athletic Director to arrange team schedules, including travel to games and practice.
- Ensure game day operations are in place, including but not limited to officials, venue set up/tear down and trainers.
- Provide statistics and reports to the Athletic Director, Sports Information Director, Region XIII, and the NJCAA when needed.
- Direct all aspects, areas, and components of the team.
- Represents the sport program at various institutional programs and externally to the media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the community.
Compliance/Game day management responsibilities:
- Chief goals include maintaining institutional control of the compliance system for college’s athletic program, and responsible for the planning and execution of home game day operations.
- Maintains institutional control of the compliance system for college’s athletic program. ( NJCAA Admin Portal, and use J1 to pull data).
- Develops internal College procedures and policies to monitor and ensure compliance with all NJCAA and Region XIII rules and regulations.
- Develops the Student Athlete Handbook with coordination with the Athletic Director for compliance and eligibility.
- Develop the Coaching Handbook in coordination with the Athletic Director for compliance and eligibility.
- Verifies and determines student eligibility to participate in NJCAA intercollegiate athletics.
- Investigates and reviews alleged NJCAA and region rule violations and communicates findings to appropriate parties (self-reporting).
- Comply with the NJCAA audit process and procedures.
- Responsible for the planning and execution of home game day operations (all athletic events).
- Recruit, assign and pay of official scorers, announcers, timers, statisticians and game day student personnel.
- Coordinate pay of officials for all home contests.
- Hire and supervise student-workers and interns for the Athletic Department.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations for compliance and eligibility. Communicate updates and best practices to the Athletic Director.
- Coordinate and facilitate set-up and tear-down for home contests (all athletic events).
- Administrative duties as assigned (copies, mailings, phone calls, hotel reservations, etc.)
- Assist the Athletic Director with fundraising efforts (Corporate partners, Booster Club, Kids Club, etc.)
- Coordinate and facilitate all aspects of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.).
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
SID responsibilities:
- Write and distribute well-articulated press releases and feature articles for relevant and noteworthy news related to Athletics. Manage interview requests and organize press conferences.
- Oversee and manage the editing and design of media guides and game programs for all athletic events.
- Maintain athletic related historical records. Utilize relevant data to compile and communicate athletic statistics.
- Maintain, review, and update the Athletics Department website and social media sites (rosters, schedules, biographies, previews, etc.).
- Coordinate the gathering and dissemination of game day statistics, live streaming, and sports information.
- Provide media support for special events and serve as primary media contact for all Bay College’s 7 intercollegiate sports.
- Nominate Bay College Athletes for Conference, NJCAA, regional and national awards in a timely manner.
- Coordinates use of all assigned athletic facilities by managing the daily operations, staffing and scheduling of all athletic events and practices.
- Responsible for overseeing the rental of athletic facilities and communicating the specific details with maintenance, events and calendar staff.
- Responsible for data entry process for online practice/game schedules.
- Ensures that facilities are set up and ready for all events and practices.
- Maintains relationships with internal and outside vendors using the facilities.
- Assist Director of Athletics with planning and programming of facility use.
- Hire and supervise student-workers and interns for the Athletic Department.
- Develops the Student Athlete Handbook with coordination with the Athletic Director for reporting, statistic regulations, etc.
- Develop the Coaching Handbook in coordination with the Athletic Director for reporting, statistic regulations, etc.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations for reporting, statistic regulations, etc. Communicate updates and best practices to the Athletic Director.
