Clinical Laboratory Supervisor (01320A) 

The position will support the sustained operation of the high-complexity CLIA Clinical Diagnostic Lab established recently.  It is responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance by testing personnel qualified under CLIA regulations and carry out other duties required for the successful operation of a high-complexity CLIA lab. 

 

Required Qualifications:

Considerable knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical laboratory methods and instrumentation related to moderate and high complexity laboratories. Considerable knowledge of QA and QC procedures and how to properly document and interpret QC data. Working knowledge of and familiarity with CPT coding, ICD-10, LOINC implementation into new testing. Working knowledge of CLIA accreditation regulations and audits. Working knowledge of the principles of supervision. Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend technical material on how to operate complex laboratory equipment and to communicate these instructions to the staff. Ability to read, comprehend and complete proficiency test accurately. Ability to identify and communicate to staff unacceptable quality control trends, identifying the problem and explaining how it should be corrected. Demonstrated ability to supervise, train and evaluate the competency of medical technologists, technicians and other testing personnel. Demonstrated ability to independently perform and evaluate the results of a variety of laboratory analysis. Ability to work weekends and after-hours during emergency testing events. Considerable experience writing technical reports, methods, protocols, and SOPs for new assays. Considerable experience with QA and QC procedures and how to properly document and interpret QC data. Considerable experience with nucleic acid extraction and analysis techniques (e.g. automated liquid handling, PCR methodologies, Sanger Sequencing, Next-Generation Sequencing, etc.) Considerable experience training molecular technologists, assessing required competencies, and administering proficiency testing according to CAP/CLIA requirements and guidelines. Considerable experience developing validation/verification procedures for clinical laboratory testing of potential tests. Considerable experience training molecular technologists in new assays/platforms according to CLIA/CAP regulatory standards. Working prior experience with CLIA laboratory accreditation regulations and audits. Working supervisory experience in a Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory setting.

 

Education or Training:

Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science and at least 3.5 years training and experience in high-complexity molecular testing.
- OR –  
Master’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science and at least 18 months training and experience in high-complexity testing.
 - OR - 
Doctoral degree in clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science and at least 1 year training and experience in high-complexity molecular testing.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Current MB/SMB with ASCP certification in molecular biology or medical laboratory sciences. Considerable experience with Orchard Harvest and/or EPIC Beaker, Compliance 360, 4Medica, MediaLab. Considerable experience maintaining document control procedures.
