About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

Northeastern University's Office of the President is seeking a Correspondence Writer to compose, edit, and manage highly personalized written communications to a wide variety of global audiences. Reporting to the Director of Administration and Operations, Office of the President, with a dotted reporting line to the Executive Writer, Office of the President, the ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional writing skills and a talent for creatively composing high-level communications, sometimes on sensitive topics. The ability to work independently and quickly master the written style of the President's Office is a must. The candidate will also possess exceptional judgment, tact, professionalism, and flexibility while maintaining confidentiality in a demanding and fast-paced environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compose written material for diverse global audiences across different channels and under strict deadlines.

  • Manage the President's daily correspondence, including active exploration of additional opportunities for communication from the Office of the President (i.e., news about trustees, students, and alumni throughout Northeastern's global network, notable calendar events, etc.).

  • Conduct research in support of communications and internal writing, including the compilation of supplemental materials (i.e., images, video links, biographies, etc.).

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with external and internal partners, including senior administrators and a range of university departments.

  • Maintain the Office of the President's voice and style standards in all correspondence.

  • Adapt tone and messaging for communications across Northeastern's global university system and for the consumption of a wide variety of external parties.

  • Assist members of the Office of the President on additional projects, including collaborations with other departments.

  • Work flexibly to complete assignments and incorporate feedback, including occasional work on evenings and weekends.

    *Other responsibilities may also be assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and two to four years of experience writing in a professional environment, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Experience in higher education or non-profit advancement communications preferred.

  • Highest level writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills with proven ability to write, edit, and organize ideas in a clear and stylistically apt manner with stringent attention to detail.

  • Flawless command of English language and grammar.

  • A global-first mindset for effectively connecting with diverse audiences across Northeastern's global university system.

  • Exceptional people skills, professionalism, and a responsive customer-centric mindset.

  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions on communications with high-level audiences.

  • Demonstrated research, data gathering, and interview skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.

  • Comfort with managing and prioritizing multiple deadlines.

  • Superb time management skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
