Job Description:

Virginia Tech’s Office of the University Registrar seeks an experienced leader to serve as its Assistant Registrar for Veteran Services. Reporting to the University Registrar, the Assistant Registrar will serve as the lead certifying official for all military and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) educational and tuition assistance. In addition to being a subject matter expert for issues associated with the VA educational benefits for veterans and military-connected students, the assistant registrar will submit enrollment information and other required data necessary to maintain compliance with state and federal laws.

Responsibilities:
•Serve as the primary School Certifying Official (SCO) for all military and VA educational assistance.
•Manage the submission of enrollment dates, enrollment certifications and verifications, certification of changes in student status, grades, and dates of attendance process in compliance with VA regulations and procedures, while maintaining records required for state and federal compliance.
•Notify State Approving Agency (SAA) and VA of current and new programs, changes in programs, and institutional changes.
•Stay up to date on current VA rules, benefits and participate in VA training for SCOs.
•Prepare for and coordinate all agency annual audits.
•Maintain accurate records in all databases (VA, Banner, etc.) while adhering to Virginia Tech, state, federal and VA regulations.
•Develop timely and accurate reports required by the VA and other external organizations.
•Serve as an effective liaison with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Office of Veteran Services at Virginia Tech, and other stake holders.
•Work closely with the Bursar’s Office to code students with anticipated aid and disbursement regarding tuition and fees.
•Supervise and evaluate the Veteran Certification Specialist.
•Ensure support staff are trained to provide accurate and detailed support to all veterans and military-connected students.

Required Qualifications:

•Master’s degree in a relevant field or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with significant experience which may equate to an advanced degree.
•Demonstrated professional administrative experience in a complex organization such as higher education or government related organization.
•Exceptional accuracy and detail-mindedness.
•Demonstrated success managing detailed, complex, administrative processes.
•Must possess effective analytical and problem-solving abilities.
•Experience prioritizing and managing multiple tasks concurrently, coupled with excellent organizational and communication skills.
•Ability to utilize computer technology to input/access data, maintain records, review, and generate reports.
•Experience in working in collaborative environments.
•Knowledge of FERPA and confidentiality of student records.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant federal and state VA regulations.
•Knowledge of SCO reporting procedures and standards.
•Advanced experience with Veterans Affairs VAONCE certification reporting systems, and WEAMS - certifying Veterans Affairs education benefits chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606, and 1607.
•Understanding of Federal Financial Aid regulations.

Salary commensurate with experience up to a budget max of $55,000 - $60,000
