Position Title
Benefits Specialist

Overview

Responsible for oversight, maintenance, and accuracy of the self-insurance medical plan to ensure compliance with the terms of the plan document by the insurance provider. Ensure accuracy of claims processing. Maintain strict confidentiality. Assist in the maintenance of the Affordable Care Act provisions as they apply to the College’s medical plans. Serve as the main contact for advising faculty and staff on all College, state, and federal leave provisions. Oversee the day-to-day administration of disability and leave plan provisions, as well as other benefit offerings. Provide support for other daily HR functions and projects.

Essential Duties:

1. Oversee the day-to-day administration of all leave provisions for faculty and staff including, but not limited to, FMLA and USERRA leaves, Workers’ Compensation claims/leaves, long-term disability claims, sick and vacation leave accruals, and annual leave reconciliation. Counsel faculty and staff on all leave entitlements.
2. Assist the Director of Benefits in the maintenance of provisions of the Affordable Care Act as they apply to the College’s medical plans.
3. Assist with the review of the self-insurance medical plan and maintain strict confidentiality on reported claims and medical conditions. Reconcile and process payment of the monthly claims.
4. Run ad-hoc reports to assist in the data analysis of various benefit plans.
5. Administer and maintain voluntary benefit programs including the vision plan, cancer protection plan, pet insurance, and back-up daycare. In conjunction with the Associate Director for Benefits & Worksite Wellness, audit vendor billing reports using Apex ad-hoc reports to assure accuracy in enrollments, terminations, and coverage changes. Assist with exit packages for employees separating employment.
6. Administer the tuition remission and assistance program to ensure compliance with the policies for faculty and staff, as well as with federal regulations and College policy. Maintain appropriate records on tuition exchange benefits.
7. In collaboration with HRIS team, oversee the scanning and maintenance of all benefit and leave files within the HRIS / BDMS system to ensure all records are appropriately categorized. Maintain all benefit workflows associated with the PeopleAdmin Employee Records module.
8. Administer OSHA reporting and maintain health and welfare plans including life insurance, AD&D, and long-term disability. Act as the department liaison with the benefit providers.
9. In the absence of the Associate Director of Benefits/Worksite Wellness Specialist, conduct new hire orientations for faculty and staff.
10. Supervise the Human Resources Student Worker(s).

Marginal Duties:

1. Assist with the off-boarding process.
2. Assist with other general human resources and benefit-related projects that may arise.
3. Perform all other duties as may be required.

Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Three to five years of experience in Human Resources with a solid foundation in employee benefit oversight and administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent computer skills including HRIS, word processing, spreadsheet application, and development of ad hoc reports. Banner experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of self-insurance administration
  • Strong knowledge of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, FMLA, and Workers’ Compensation regulations
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
  • Must be able to exercise sound judgment and discretion
  • Confidentiality in all personnel matters required.
