Position Summary Information

Key Responsibilities

The Department of Communication at Juniata College seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication with expertise in Strategic Communication, including areas related to the creation, delivery, coordination, and study of internal and external messages intended to further organizational mission, culture, and goals. We seek a collaborative teacher-scholar committed to inclusive teaching in the liberal arts to join and expand our growing program. We offer three Programs of Emphasis, including Strategic Communication, Media Studies and Production, and Communication Advocacy.

Our ideal candidate will teach and develop courses in our core curriculum and in Strategic Communication. We are especially interested in candidates who can develop courses in areas of crisis communication, health communication, environmental communication, or social media strategy. We highly value and encourage our faculty to seek interdisciplinary connections for both teaching and research.

We seek a colleague who is committed to high-impact practices including collaborative research with undergraduate students and community-engaged learning within a liberal arts context. Our department’s core values center upon theoretically and ethically driven communication. As such, we welcome colleagues committed to concerns of social justice, civic engagement, and systems of power, privilege, and oppression.

The Juniata community is dedicated to providing an academically rigorous and personally enriching liberal arts education. In addition, Juniata faculty are expected to provide ongoing student advising, scholarship in their area of expertise, and service to the department and the college.

Juniata College is committed to cultivating an equity-minded and equity-engaged campus culture, one that is inclusive and supportive of its students, faculty, and staff. We believe that all members of the College community share the responsibility to engage, sustain, and leverage an interconnected learning environment in which difference is valued, equity is sought, and a sense of belonging is explicit. Juniata’s strategic mission promotes diversity in every expression, and amplifies the College’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and access. We aim to evolve into a more global, equitable and ethical community, where all Juniatians live a life of inclusive belonging needed for becoming leaders who value and embrace human interconnectedness and dignity. Juniata invites and welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.AA/ EOE
