Job Summary

The Drexel University School of Public Health invites applications for a Senior Data & Analytics Engineer in the Urban Health Collaborative. The position requires a detail-oriented and organized individual who will conduct data programming, management, data documentation, and statistical analysis activities for the West Philly Promise Neighborhood and other urban health-focused projects.

The Senior Data & Analytics Engineer will manage and link complex datasets, create appropriate documentation, and conduct statistical analysis in collaboration with investigators, trainees and other analysts at Drexel and at other institutions. He/she/they will assist in developing manuscripts and reports for presentation and publication.

Essential Functions
  • Perform compilation and linkage of multiple datasets including academic, service provision, survey, cohort, geographical/contextual, and other datasets as necessary. Interact with data team and GIS experts to acquire and clean data. Develop and maintain detailed documentation for data cleaning, linkage, storage, and analyses.
  • Assist with analysis plan development and implementation for manuscripts, abstracts, and reports, including preparation of analytical datasets to be used in statistical analyses. Analyses include power, associational, causal, and predictive analyses; incorporate statistical and machine-learning methods; and use cross-sectional, longitudinal, and multilevel data.
  • Lead and execute requests for data and for data analyses from faculty, staff, and student researchers, as well as community and agency stakeholders. Track data requests and ensure data confidentiality as necessary.
  • Assist with design and analysis of multi-modal complex surveys including creation of sampling frames and stratified samples using address or other data, and design and estimation of survey weights.
  • Program surveys with complex skip patterns and flows in Qualtrics or other survey software.
  • Use data visualization skills to build interactive dashboards to display information in multiple formats using tools such as Python, SQL, front-end web, CKAN, and Flask.
  • Create databases using expertise in SQL (including MSSQL Server, MySQL, Postgres, and/or MariaDB).
  • Develop user-friendly data entry application software to collect information about field operations and insert data directly into databases.
  • Manage Azure Cloud systems including set-up and maintenance of resources for data storage and calculating monthly and quarterly billing statements for multiple projects.
  • Configure and deploy servers for an open data portal using Azure and Docker. Create, edit, and maintain the front-end website of the data portal.
  • Mentor and assist students, other trainees, and junior staff members with various database construction, data visualization and data analysis projects.
  • Lead writing efforts on sections of or full manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, contributing to team’s research output.
Required Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Informatics, data analytics, information technology, business technology or other related field or Equivalent
  • At least 5 years experience working with and linking complex longitudinal and geographical datasets.
  • Experience with database creation and management.
  • Experience with statistical analyses.
  • Knowledge of programming in SAS, Stata, R, and/or Python; working knowledge or ability to quickly learn other statistical programs as needed.
  • Very detail oriented, extremely organized, and comfortable with multitasking.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication.• Team oriented and experienced working with diverse groups of investigators and trainees.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with longitudinal and multilevel analyses, analysis of complex survey data, and power analysis preferred.
  • Experience with education or service provision data management and analyses preferred.
  • Experience working with communities in Philadelphia and knowledge of data sources and systems in Philadelphia preferred.
