Our computer science program is ABET accredited. Our program offerings are nationally recognized, affordable, and accessible. Our goal is to develop capable, successful technology and business professionals who are also responsible citizens committed to contributing to the community. The Department of Information Systems & Computer Science offers academic programs of study including a BS in Computer Science, BS in Data Science, BBA in Management Information Systems, and Master of Management Information Systems.
The computer science program is in a unique setting that resides in the J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology. With ABET accredited status and support from the College of Business & Technology, our computer science program enjoys the best of both a computer science education and a rich business environment.

Job Summary
The J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology at Georgia College & State University, with programs of study accredited by AACSB and a BS in Computer Science accredited by ABET, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Computer Science beginning August 1, 2023. Candidates with a terminal degree and disciplinary background in Computer Science are encouraged to apply. The faculty member, in this 10-month tenure-track position, will teach courses in Computer Science including Java. Any secondary area in Computer Science or Data Science is welcome. The Department of Information Systems & Computer Science offers academic programs of study including a BS in Computer Science, BS in Data Science (started fall 2022), BBA in Management Information Systems, and Master of Management Information Systems and participates in the highly successful Georgia WebMBA.
Responsibilities
Faculty at Georgia College & State University are teacher-scholars and engaged university citizens. In addition to teaching in field by providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike, all Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core university core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. Faculty are also expected develop and demonstrate knowledge of current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline. Other critical responsibilities in our teacher-scholar model include:
- Research: Faculty must conduct research and develop within the profession including peer-reviewed scholarly publications, presentations at academic/professional meetings, and engage in other scholarly activities to continually meet our faculty qualifications policy. Service: All faculty are expected to support the advancement of our mission by providing high quality service to the department, college, university, community, and disciplinary level.
Required Qualifications
Qualified candidates for this tenure-track position as Assistant Professor must have a terminal degree in Computer Science or related area and identify as a teacher-scholar committed to the public liberal arts. Doctoral student applicants in an All-but- Dissertation (ABD) status will be considered. Other required qualifications include:
- understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning; successful higher education teaching experience within the candidate's area of specialization; effective communication skills; a passion for working with and mentoring students; demonstrable ability to work collegially and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications
Preference is given to candidates with two or more years of experience teaching undergraduate CS classes and
- experience teaching freshman-level CS classes, especially in Java experience teaching various computer science courses work experience in the field
Hiring preference will be given to faculty who demonstrate an understanding of Georgia College & State University's mission and who are enthusiastic about working closely with students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship.
