Department Summary

The College of Extended and Global Education (CEGE) is a dynamic, entrepreneurial and growing unit in the division of Academic Affairs. CEGE has two major areas of programmatic focus. One is to serve as the self-supporting arm of the University which extends the University's resources to provide educational opportunities to a wide variety of constituencies. The extended education portfolio includes Summer Session, Winter Intersession, degrees and certificates offered in collaboration with academic colleges, Open University, Special Sessions courses, extension credit programs, English Language Program, as well as non-credit programs for professional and workforce development and personal enrichment. The other area is global education with CEGE leading campus comprehensive internationalization efforts and its administrative units include international admissions, education abroad, international extension programs including English Language Program, and international students and scholars programs.

Job Summary

CSUSB is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to lead the College of Extended and Global Education. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the AVP for International Education and Dean of Extended and Global Education provides leadership in the administration of the University's extended education as well as global education. The incumbent is responsible for the development and expansion of extended and global education opportunities that respond to regional, state, and international markets. The extended education portfolio includes a wide array of self-supporting programs that includes Summer Session, Winter Intersession, degrees and certificates offered in collaboration with academic colleges, Open University, Special Sessions courses, extension credit programs, English Language Program, as well as non-credit programs for professional and workforce development and personal enrichment. Serving as the Senior International Officer, the Dean and AVP for International Education leads campus comprehensive internationalization efforts and oversees the administration of campus' international programs, including international admissions, education abroad, international extension programs including English Language Program, and international students and scholars programs. The Dean contributes to the attainment of the goals of the Division of Academic Affairs and the University.

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean provides administrative leadership to the College of Extended and Global Education.

Responsibilities include, but is not limited to:
  • Provide leadership to the College in advancing the Mission and Strategic Plan of the University as it relates to Extended Education and Global Education. Oversee the development and implementation of CEGE strategic plan that contributes to the University strategic plan as well as Academic Affairs strategic priorities. Collaboratively develop goals for CEGE departments and staff.
  • Oversee the administration of all self-support operations, including Summer Session, Winter Intersession, self-support degree and certificate programs, special session courses, Open University, extension credit and non-credit courses and programs, workforce development programs, personal and professional development courses and programs, and contract offerings. In collaboration with the academic Deans, monitor self-support academic programs for alignment with the university, mission, strategic plan, student demand, and community needs.
  • In collaboration with campus partners, provide leadership in developing and implementing campus strategies for comprehensive internationalization.
  • Oversee the administration of international programs and activities, international student recruitment, education abroad; maintain and expand international partnerships; oversee the development and execution of international memoranda and agreements to ensure their compliance with CSU and campus policies and procedures.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other units on campus, including with other deans, enrollment services, administration and finance and others to develop, enhance, and expand self-support programs.
  • Seek opportunities to expand engagement with community and business partners and oversee the development of partnerships to provide career development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with all CSU policies and procedures (formerly Executive Orders) and university policies and procedures relevant to Extended Education and international programs. Ensure that all CEGE programs operate in compliance with applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements for faculty and staff employees.
  • Oversee the management of CEGE financials to ensure programs sustainability and overall financial health of the College. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures related to financial management.
  • Manage effectively College's human resources: setting expectations and goals, conducting staff evaluations against set goals.
  • Oversee and develop CEGE policies and procedures that ensure transparent and efficient operations.
  • Promote professional development and teamwork among CEGE staff.
  • Serve on the Provost's Leadership Team, Dean's Council, chair the Council on International Affairs, and serve other committees to provide leadership on a wide-variety of campus initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Employment Status: Full-time, At-Will, 'Exempt' position, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

    Work Schedule
    • Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.

  • Education and Experience
  • An earned terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • 5 years of leadership position in a complex organization with directly supervising employees.
  • Demonstrated record of successful administration and development of self-supporting programs and budget oversight.
  • Demonstrated record of successful administration of international education programs, including developing and implementing international agreements.
  • A successful record of managing human resources with direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, policy and procedures development.
  • Experience developing international agreements.
  • Experience with developing and implementing assessment plans, conducting data analysis, developing and implementing continuous improvement plans.
  • Experience in developing and implementing local policies and procedures.
  • Experience with preparing professional reports, proposals and presentations
  • Experience working within an ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse environment.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree and appropriate credentials to qualify for an appointment as a tenured faculty in one of the colleges/schools within the Division of Academic Affairs.
  • At least five years of administrative experience as a dean, associate dean, or comparable position.
  • Familiarity with CSU Extended Education policies and procedures.
  • Evidence of effective and ethical leadership and management through collaborative and shared decision-making.

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $9,167 - $27,500 per month
