Department Profile
The Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (SEM) Division is one of the largest instructional divisions at Cerritos College, comprised of six departments: Biology; Chemistry; Computer and Information Sciences; Earth Sciences; Mathematics; and Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering. Project HOPE, a student support service committed to student success in healthcare-related fields, is also housed in the SEM Division.
The faculty in the SEM Division continuously seek to expand program offerings to best serve our students—offering programs that lead to immediate employment in the workforce or successful transfer into a four-year course of study in the sciences, engineering, or mathematics. The SEM Division is excited to introduce its newest program offering in Biotechnology. This new Associate's degree and certificate program of study will prepare students for immediate employment in the rapidly growing area of employment in the biosciences in the Los Angeles region, throughout the State of California, and across the United States.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a dynamic, flexible, and responsive leader and manager of a team of over 200 members—over 170 full-time and part-time faculty, eight full-time staff members, and over 30 short-term hourly employees. With the division's proven track record of acquiring grant funding to support its innovative programs, the SEM Division Dean will have experience in leading a team of proposal writing and successful funding acquisition. The SEM Division Dean will also offer innovative ideas to the division faculty and staff as well as the college management team as Cerritos College continues to develop and implement equity-focused, student support programs that close equity gaps, eliminate disproportionate impact, and ensure completion and success for all our students.
Summary
Plans, supervises, assesses and evaluates instructional programs for an academic division. Plans, develops and evaluates curriculum, programs, and services that meet the needs of a highly diverse urban student population. Oversees the planning, supervision, assessment and evaluation of instructional programs, including their services, personnel, interagency reports and contacts, and budget. The position also provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Vice President, Academic Affairs.

The Dean, Instructional Division reports to the Vice President, Academic Affairs and is responsible for integrating and providing academic and administrative services to a diverse student population. This position requires a demonstrated ability to direct the activities of an academic division and its related functions and services, to provide leadership over curriculum, faculty and staff, and offer excellence in delivering instructional programs.

Requires a master's degree preferably in one of the disciplines of the division, two years of full-time teaching experience or the equivalent, preferably at the community college level, and one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment. Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic background of the student, community, and employee population.

This is a full-time 12-calendar month academic manager position. Employment is to be effective as soon as possible following completion of the selection process.
An annual stipend of $3,681 shall be provided to management employees with an earned doctorate degree.

Individual who is offered employment shall be required to obtain fingerprints for a criminal history clearance through the State Department of Justice and remit the required fee for processing the fingerprints, Federal Bureau of Investigation (no fee if obtained at Cerritos College Campus Police Station), produce an original social security card, and submit negative TB test results (must be within the past four years or within the last 60 days if not previously employed in a school district in California) before employment.
