Summary

This position will work in a research laboratory focused on the development and testing
of pre-clinical models to treat breast cancer metastasis. The position will involve some
animal husbandry and separately routine culturing of cancer cells. Standard daytime
(8AM-5PM) work hours are required with occasional weekend time required.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Conducting supervised research (80%): The major task for this position will be
to perform animal handling, tumor cell implantation, drug administration, tumor
measurements, and necropsies of mouse models of cancer. Additional
experiments may include histological sectioning of tissues, microscopy, western
blotting, working with cell lines and patient-derived xenograft models.

 Organization and record keeping (10%): Daily updating and management of
laboratory records. This includes hard copy laboratory notebooks as well as
online databases such as Google based spreadsheets. Weekly lab consumable
inventory and notifying the Principal Investigator of items needed to order.

 Writing (5%): Ability to record data and present it to other lab members and the
Principal Investigator.

 Other duties as assigned (5%). The candidate will be responsible for carrying
out other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal Investigator.[Insert Text]

Essential Qualifications

 Minimum of one year of experience working in a scientific research laboratory.
 Highly organized and provide evidence of successfully working in a team environment, such as co-author publications.
 Experience handling mice and performing animal husbandry.
 Experience performing cell culture based studies on cancer cells treated with therapeutic compounds.

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline is highly preferred.
