Job Summary:

The Multilingual Learning Research Center at WCER advances educational outcomes for bi/multilingual learners through innovative and socially conscious research and interdisciplinary partnerships with scholars and practitioners. Research at the MLRC focuses on inquiry around the teaching and learning of bi/multilingual learners through descriptive and hypothesis testing studies that have an impact on teaching practice, teacher quality, and policy, in both US and global contexts.

The FFS (fee-for-service) researcher will assist the principal investigator with data collection, analysis, and interpretation, as part of education research projects in international contexts. The ideal candidate will have experience working with principal investigators and as part of research teams in study design and tool development. Experience working with qualitative data (e.g., observations, interviews and focus groups) is required and at least some experience collaborating on quantitative analysis (e.g., analysis of surveys) is preferred. It is also desired that the FFS researcher has experience contributing to writing for diverse audiences, including peer-reviewed journals and practitioner-oriented publications. Other duties may include support on grant proposals, literature reviews, and IRB preparation.

Responsibilities:

Provides research expertise to fundamental and applied scientific research and solves problems in research development and applications to support the advancement of research.
  • 20% Collects and analyzes increasingly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 15% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, co-authors publications, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 5% Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • 15% Develops and implements increasingly complex research methodologies, procedures, and criteria
  • 20% Reviews and edits protocols to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency
  • 5% Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 10% Develops research-informed resources, tools, and services on behalf of the Center
  • 10% Assists with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures

Education:

Required
PhD in education or related field

Qualifications:

Required Experience:
* Teaching or working in international schools in global locations (outside the United States).
* Working abroad, with educators, and with individuals of diverse language and cultural backgrounds.
* Working with principal investigators and as part of research teams in study design and tool development.
* Working with qualitative data (e.g., observations, interviews and focus groups).
* Contributing to writing for diverse audiences, including peer-reviewed journals and practitioner-oriented publications.
* Qualitative research methods

Preferred experience:
* Proficiency in English and at least one other language.
* Some experience with quantitative methods (collaborating on survey analysis).

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus (international) work location. Occasional travel may be required to attend work-related meetings and professional development activities.
