Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The Instructor (Master’s degree) Level Counselor is a 9-month full time, tenure-track faculty position within Slippery Rock University’s Student Counseling Center. The Instructor Level Counselor contributes to the University strategic planning objectives and reports to the Director of the Student Counseling Center and the Chairperson of the Counseling and Development Department. The Instructor Level Counselor performs duties within the boundaries of the ethical codes of the American Counseling Association and/or the American Psychological Association and the laws of the state of Pennsylvania that govern the professional practice of Counseling and/or Psychology.
The Instructor Level Counselor provides professional counseling services to students with personal, social, interpersonal and education issues including intake assessment, individual, group, and couples/family counseling. Provides consultation, education, and referral regarding emotional issues to students, faculty, and staff. Facilitates psychiatric hospitalization for students as necessary. Coordinates with department and university faculty and staff to develop and implement mental health related prevention and outreach programing for the SRU community. Serve as chair of the Student Counseling Center Outreach Committee. Serves on university and department committees completing tasks as assigned and engages in scholarly activities commensurate with faculty appointment.

Minimum Qualifications

• An earned Master’s degree in Counseling or closely related field by August 21, 2023
• A minimum of one year of experience providing direct counseling in a counseling center or other counseling agency.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with university and/or community stakeholders.
• Superior oral and written communication skills.
• Licensed or license-eligible in Pennsylvania as a Professional Counselor
• Demonstrated commitment to and experience in working with diverse populations
• Successful performance in an on-campus interview including presentation to university stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a college/university campus-based counseling center or other student affairs position directly addressing college student mental health concerns.
• Graduate course work in College Counseling and/or college student development
• Developmental counseling orientation
• Experience developing and/or implementing campus outreach and prevention programming to a diverse college student body.
• Evidence of successful coordination and collaboration with university Student Affairs areas and/or other campus offices to develop effective campus programing.
• Experience providing counseling services to graduate students.
