Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is currently seeking a Senior Director of Advancement Data & Analysis! Working under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Strategic Engagement, the Senior Director of Advancement Data and Analysis will play a key role in strategy for the division and will fulfill research, data, and key analytic needs across the organization with integration and collaboration with the University's Digital Transformation area. This position will bring a record of success in advanced analysis, modelling, and performance measurement on projects across an organization. The Senior Director of Data & Analysis will provide clarity on the purpose of data, how to capture, manipulate, interpret and apply it, and then demonstrate the value and impact of this sophisticated science to inform advancement goals, growth opportunities, and strategic planning. The Senior Director of Advancement Data & Analysis will lead a dynamic team of individuals providing strategic vision, alignment, and a sharp vision for how the teams varying roles fit to support a division-wide initiatives. The position will have experiencing bridging data and strategy to tell a straightforward and compelling story using data as the primary tool.

Key job functions will include:.
  • Support strategic decision making for the Advancement Leadership Team
  • Organize, take inventory, and strategically recommend a project plan to remediate deficiencies for improvement and increased efficiencies for the advancement data team Ability to lead out, collaborate, and proactively address data needs related to fundraising efforts across the University utilizing tools like PowerBI and Tableau
  • Oversee the development and ongoing improvement of dashboards and reporting that provides analytics across the division and University and manage division-wide reporting for individual departments.
  • Ability to manage organizational change and a demonstrated record of success in working collaboratively and cross-functionally
  • Establish and oversee the implementation of processes to improve data governance

The Senior Director of Advancement Data & Analysis will fulfill research, data and analytic needs across the organization. The individual in this position should have experience in building capacity for utilizing data to make data-informed decisions and drive action. The Senior Director will possess a demonstrated record of innovation, collaboration, and results.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • 30% Participate, partner, and lead strategy for Institutional Advancement Data and Analysis department on such initiatives as the following: reporting, constituent and partner relations, process improvement, and data governance.
  • 25% Conducting advanced analysis leveraging CRM and donors databases. Leading modelling, and performance measurement on projects across the organization to anticipate and help educate key constituents best understand their data needs and key data points.
  • 20% Executing dashboards for key constituent projects using expertise Tableau and PowerBI
    15% Lead and manage a team to effectively partner and implement change management best practices within and outside the department.
  • 10% Perform other duties as assigned and requested including service on hiring committees, presenting to key thought leaders and campus partners, and other activities as necessary to support the vision of the division.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a related discipline plus three years of staff level experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling seven years.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Requires extensive leadership experience leading data and dynamic teams. Industry knowledge of databases and Customer/Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) systems including Blackbaud Raiser's Edge.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and how to create, maintain, and communicate budget needs for the department
  • Knowledge of best practices in Advancement/Development Services regarding gift processing, reporting, data hygiene, and data security.
  • Knowledge of current IT trends as they relate to system integration, data security, and emerging technology. Knowledge of University alumni systems and data tracking for this key constituency.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills to effectively manage personnel.

  • This position will also oversee the selection and initiation of innovative programs needed in data in cooperation with the entire data team.
  • Ability to work and communicate with the diverse levels of university employees from the President and Executive level to direct report.
  • Ability to understand and convey concepts regarding highly technical IT systems and processes.
  • Ability to effectively plan, initiate, evaluate, and complete projects.
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflicts with staff, colleagues, and vendors.
