About the Opportunity

About the Opportunity

Northeastern University's College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) is seeking exceptional senior scholars for open tenured faculty positions in arts, media and design fields at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. We are particularly interested in candidates whose expertise lies in arts, media or design in connection with one or more of the following areas: Extended Reality (XR, including augmented, virtual and/or mixed reality), Serious Games, Data Visualization, Media Innovation, Misinformation, Cognitive and Brain Health (especially cross-cultural and community-based approaches).

The position will have a primary tenure home in one of CAMD's six schools and departments (Architecture, Art + Design, Communication Studies, Journalism, Music, and Theater). Joint appointments and/or affiliations with other colleges and institutes at Northeastern University are strongly encouraged and will be considered as appropriate. Positions will primarily be on the Boston campus but may be available at other campus locations, including Oakland, Vancouver and London.

Responsibilities:

Faculty members at Northeastern are expected to develop independent research programs that attract external funding; teach courses and help build innovative and distinctive programs at the graduate and undergraduate level; mentor junior faculty and supervise students and postdocs in their area of research; and participate in service in the department, university, and discipline. Candidates interested in conducting high-impact research and committed to teaching excellence in the broad areas above are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be outstanding scholars or practitioners with an international reputation for excellence in research, teaching, and service along with clear indications of continued research success or, in the case of practitioners, a strong track record of professional success and impact with clear indications of continued influence and achievement. We are especially interested in individuals who value collegiality, are effective mentors of junior colleagues, and whose research would complement and extend the interests of our existing faculty. Candidates must hold a doctorate or terminal degree (e.g. MA, MFA, MArch) in fields such as Design, Game Design, AR/VR, Communication Studies, Music Cognition or a closely related field in the proposed focus areas of the candidate's research and teaching. 5 years of teaching experience in a related field required by appointment start date. Incoming rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates must have a background in or commitment to working with diverse student populations and/or in culturally diverse work and educational environments.

Documents to Submit:

Applications should include a cover letter that addresses the applicant's interest in and qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness, research statement, diversity statement, work sample, and contact information for at least three letters of recommendation. The search committee will contact candidates before requesting recommendations.

For the Diversity Statement: Please provide a statement of your commitment and contributions to diversity efforts that describes your past experience, activities, and future plans to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and belonging in your teaching, research, and service. Your statement should demonstrate an understanding of the barriers facing marginalized communities in your field and be in alignment with https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpresident.northeastern.edu%2F2020%2F10%2F19%2Fan-important-update-from-president-aoun%2F&data=05%7C01%7CH.Poriss%40northeastern.edu%7C4874ce41e5384e5ad7e208da795b446f%7Ca8eec281aaa34daeac9b9a398b9215e7%7C0%7C0%7C637955730190011255%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=8LwKTrBZT9%2BfhxZAE%2Bd5VpcxFIkxU5S8xXTDlB5amOw%3D&reserved=0">Northeastern's mission to reflect the diversity of the societies in which it maintains campuses and meet the educational needs and interests of its diverse population.
