Communications Specialist, Arts and Sciences Dean's Office - 502397

SUMMARY:

The communications specialist is responsible for supporting the School of Arts & Sciences by performing a broad range of editorial, design, and website tasks in support of communications and marketing, publications, advancement, event planning, and community building. The communications specialist will use the following communications channel in service of these goals: email, print and digital publications and newsletters, website, and social media.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Internal Communications & Operations:

  • Update and maintain A&S listservs and serve as a listserv administrator to troubleshoot any issues.
  • Utilize survey and form tools in collaboration with Dean's Office team to achieve consistency in collecting data and information.
  • Provide support to A&S departments and programs in communications support, materials, and website management.
  • Management of donor information to A&S departments and programs, and communications with A&S Dean's Impact Fund donors.
  • Monitor A&S inbox and using A&S inbox to distribute information.

External Communications:

  • Collaborate in the coordination and development of A&S feature stories and content elements to use on the websites, email newsletter, social media and other communications channels.
  • Coordinate with communications manager to develop and distribute the A&S newsletter.

Event Planning & Promotion:

  • Partner with communications manager, Dean's Office team, and A&S departments and programs in the creation and implementation of communications materials and marketing implementation for A&S event promotion.
  • Assist with execution of A&S events as necessary.

Web & Digital Communications:

  • Partner with the communications manager and A&S departments and programs to maintain consistent, compelling email newsletter, website, and social media content.
  • Draft posts for social media channels and monitor A&S social media channels for mentions, relevant posts, and issues requiring attention.
  • Review website edits submitted by A&S departments and program web contributors to align with School and University message and style guide.
  • Conduct regular website audits to ensure the A&S websites are up-to-date, accurate, and optimized in coordination with A&S departments and programs.
  • Create and edit digital content and photos for website and social media.
  • Use metrics and analytics to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of social media strategies and organic and paid campaigns; develop regular, customized reports to shape decisions about social media planning and engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Clear, concise oral and written communications skills. AP Style knowledge a plus.
  • Strong eye for storytelling.
  • Web content management system knowledge.
  • Proficiency with in relevant software, including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva.
  • Ability to learn new programs and adapt to new technologies quickly.
  • Ability to work independently at a consistently high level of productivity and accuracy.
  • Excellent team collaboration skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to multitask, producing multiple projects at a time on deadline.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree with at least three years' experience in related field.
  • Experience in account/client management role or university setting preferred.
  • Experience with website development/management/content management systems is required.
  • Experience with social media management and content development is required.

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week; occasional evening and weekends

SALARY STRUCTURE:

Pay Grade 6 (Hiring Range $46,114.00 to $61,110.00 annually)
