Job Summary  The Academic Advising Center is committed to the smooth transition and the academic success of all undergraduate students at Georgia College. Students are able to experience centralized advising in Lanier Hall, located in the middle of the Academic Square. With professional advisors located in one building and representing every major, students can receive guidance in a one-stop setting.

Responsibilities

Advising - 45

Serve as an academic advisor in an academic advising cluster such as Health Sciences, Business, Humanities and Education, Social Sciences and Psychological Science, or Mathematics and Science.

Advising cont - 30
Advise additional returning or transferring students and those not in good academic standing and/or who are unable to gain entrance into their chosen major. Advising and registration of new freshmen students through POUNCE, an early registration program. Advise students requesting change of major and supply current, accurate academic requirements for such major.

Teaching/Instructing - 15
Teach approximately three sections of First-Year Academic Seminars.

Programming - 10
Offer student programming (e.g., workshops, fairs or expos) to introduce students to various majors on campus as well as student support services.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related field

Required Experience
One to three years of direct advising experience or experience providing transition based freshman programs to diverse students (i.e. Orientation, Freshman Seminar)

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA)

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Ed or closely related field

Preferred Experience
Experience advising students in a college or university setting, or similar transferrable experience
