This is a full-time benefits-eligible position. Working hours:

Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm
Working hours during academic year are full-time, regular business hours. when academic classes are in session. Hours during summer session are 258 hours total.

Position Purpose

Identify and recruit McNair Scholars Program participants.
Organize and coordinate McNair academic and research activities.
Counsel McNair participants, serving as a role model and program liaison for participants.

  • Masters degree required
  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D. preferred).

Experience

1. Minimum of one year experience college teaching, counseling, or supervision in higher education setting required.
2. Knowledge of graduate studies programs and demonstrated research background required.
3. Experience as a participant or as a staff member in a TRIO program preferred.
4. First-generation, low-income student (in past) or member of group underrepresented in higher education highly preferred.

Attention to detail, Communication skills, including oral, written, and/or nonverbal, Knowledge of a University environment preferred, Human Relations/Interpersonal skills, Leadership skills: organization/meeting facilitation/project leadership, Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines, Maintain confidentiality

1. Ability to organize events such as seminars, symposia, daytrips to doctoral institutions, etc.
2. Ability to present/teach (college-level experience preferred).
3. Knowledge of general requirements for doctoral study, financial aid programs, and federal TRIO regulations.
4. Knowledge of general research components and techniques, statistics, human and animal subject research protocol.
5. Ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals including first-generation and low-income students, underrepresented students, faculty, staff, and administrators in an academic setting.
6. Ability to treat all individuals in a fair, equitable, and respectful manner.
7. Capacity to initiate and maintain constructive, supportive relationships with a wide variety of faculty, staff, and students.
8. Mental skills, including concentration, memory, complex decision making, analytical thinking,
and/or conceptual thinking.
