Do you enjoy making technical information accessible by creating content that grabs people’s attention, making them want to learn more about what they see online? Do you rise to the challenge of making high-level concepts and research accessible and inviting to consumers? Would you like to work with leaders in the fields of software engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence engineering on projects that matter to the Department of Defense, government agencies, and private industry?

We’re looking for a digital media specialist who is a strong writer and editor with experience in social media engagement on social platforms (specifically LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram), familiarity with SEO, and knowledge in the branded content digital space. This person will help strategize, design and execute, and analyze digital campaigns for our organization. This digital media specialist will work with the communications team to create and edit new and innovative videos, photographs, and written content for our work and our trade shows to elevate our brand via content campaigns.

What you’ll do
  • Coordinate campaign details with multiple internal teams to ensure campaign execution is aligned with client needs and shared in a timely manner.

  • Create branded content social posts across multiple markets and papers.

  • Ensure social post content adheres to social media guidelines, best practices, and is error free.

  • Coordinate with teams to provide insight if changes are needed. Write new copy using search engine optimization basics, edit, or reinterpret as needed.

  • Organize multiple posts and campaigns within internal campaign platform.

  • Communicate social post schedule and needs with internal teams.

  • Help create content for our social campaigns for platforms.

  • Develop content for internal communications and outreach, including content aligned with our diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

  • Stay up to date with latest social media technology, analytics, and best practices.

Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in a communication-related field and experience with online communication.

  • 3-5 years experience in social media.

  • Experience working in a team environment.

  • Willingness to travel to various locations to support the SEI’s overall mission. This includes within the SEI and CMU community.

  • You will be subject to a background check and must be eligible to work in the United States without Visa sponsorship.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to write, copyedit, and proofread online content and print documents and to conform to a style guide. Superior written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong work ethic and a desire to learn

  • Understanding of web functions and standards, especially with respect to podcasts, video and social media sharing (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)

  • The ability to edit and rewrite content from other one sources to another (and understand how to change the tone and length of the content for each context).

  • Strong copyediting, proofreading, and web publishing skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, respond to shifting priorities, and pay careful attention to details.

  • Ability to work in a team environment with technical experts, professional writers, and administrative assistants.

Desired Experience
  • Education/Training: Master’s degree in a marketing or communications related field.

  • At least 5-8 years of experience working with digital content and utilizing social media platforms

  • Experience with Google Analytics and using SEO to improve visibility of online content.

  • Expertise in technical communication principles and English usage.

The SEI works closely with defense and government organizations, industry, and academia to continually improve software-intensive systems. Our core purpose is to help organizations improve software engineering capabilities and develop or acquire the right software, defect free, within budget and on time, every time.

The Strategic Communications Team informs the structure of the communication channels and helps the SEI’s technical staff inform our sponsor and the public about the research, methods, products, and services developed at the SEI while maintaining the consistency of the SEI brand.
