Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: Full-time, tenure track position beginning Fall 2023.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The position is located at the Macomb campus and housed in the School of Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Decision Sciences. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate teaching in traditional and distance learning formats. A minimum teaching load of 3/3 is required. Primary teaching duties will be 1) Principles of Macroeconomics and business statistics, 2) econometrics on the graduate and undergraduate levels and 3) graduate math economics. All faculty members must engage in service to the WIU community, including recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives.

RANK & SALARY: Assistant Professor. Compensation is dependent on rank and qualifications and is competitive with regional, comprehensive universities. Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned a Ph.D. in Economics from an AACSB (or equivalently) accredited institution. Desired field of specialization is macroeconomics with a focus on financial economics; related fields will be considered. Candidates must demonstrate a strong background in econometrics and quantitative methods. Earned degree must be in hand by the start of contract (Aug. 17, 2023). Applicants must demonstrate excellent communication skills, a commitment to excellent teaching, research, and service, and the ability to maintain scholarly academic standing under AACSB criteria at all times. Candidates must have experience in face-to-face and remote teaching environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Training in financial economics. University-level teaching experience, including Principles of Macroeconomics and one of the following: monetary policy, intermediate macro, or time series econometrics. Ideal candidates will also have teaching experience with technology-driven course delivery, including video conferencing and online delivery methods in synchronous and asynchronous settings. Professional corporate/industry experience is a plus.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be "in hand" at the time of appointment.

THE DEPARTMENT: The School of Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Decision Sciences offers B.B. degrees in Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Business Analytics; and graduate degrees in Quantitative Economics, Applied Statistics and Decision Analytics, and Accountancy. The College of Business and Technology (CBT) has over 2,100 undergraduate majors, 275 graduate students, and 126 full-time faculty and is AACSB accredited at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

THE UNIVERSITY: Since 1902, Western Illinois University has provided outstanding educational opportunities to individuals in west central Illinois and well beyond our region and state. WIU's traditional residential campus in Macomb, Illinois, is the educational, cultural, and athletic center of the region, while the WIU-Quad Cities non-residential branch campus in Moline, Illinois, is the only public university in the immediate Quad Cities region.

Western is a comprehensive university offering 61 undergraduate and 41 graduate degree programs, which include an Ed.D. in educational leadership and a Ph.D. in environmental science. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1, the University's 442 full-time faculty members teach 94 percent of all undergraduate and graduate courses.

WIU-Macomb, IL: A traditional, residential four-year campus with distinctive undergraduate degrees and numerous graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 20,000). Macomb is an Amtrak city with twice-daily service to Chicago. Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities: The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its non-residential campus in Moline, IL (population 44,000). Located on the banks of the Mississippi River in Moline, Illinois. Moline is located just 80 miles north of the Macomb campus and is centered within a diverse, bi-state community of 383,000 that offers a broad range of cultural, social, and entertainment amenities and experiences, as well as varied businesses and industries.

WIU's Macomb campus is the educational, cultural and athletic center of the region. Annually, 12 major theatrical and dance productions and studio shows are performed, along with outstanding concerts, lectures, presentations, films, dance performances and more. The Gwendolyn Brooks and Casa Latina cultural centers offer programs and activities focusing on Black and Hispanic cultures, while the Women's Center promotes gender equity through education, support and advocacy. WIU's student organization for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and ally (LGBTQ*A) community provides resources, support and programming. These cultural and resource centers promote WIU's goal of enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through educational programming and advocacy.

The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. Football competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision through the Missouri Valley Football Conference; all other varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Summit League.
