Job Description

Reporting to the Dean of Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, the Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration provides leadership for the financial operations, financial department personnel, and continuing growth of the school. Develops an annual budget and spending plan forecasting the college's needs. Assist the Dean in management analysis and planning for a variety of ongoing projects. Implements information management programs to ensure accountability and encourage continuous improvement. Recommends and reviews operational efficiencies and improvements in all functional areas of senior management; provides consultation to constituent departments regarding assessment activities. Assists the Dean and department heads with the preparation of RFPs, grant applications, and budgets for sponsored projects as needed. Manages the financial enterprise systems changes needed to enact organizational changes. Risk Management oversight: In consultation with other appropriate professionals in the constituent units, works to review, update and improve risk management measures. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

A master's degree, preferably in a related field such as public administration, accounting, business administration, or education.
Significant, successful experience in a financial management-related position in a higher education setting.
Advanced spreadsheet skills, including manipulation of large data sets; ability to analyze, summarize and present financial and narrative information clearly to the Dean and other stakeholders.
Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and effective writing and communication skills.
Knowledge of federal guidelines and circulars related to grants, contracts, and service centers. Experience managing a professional financial staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Virginia Tech's financial and academic policies and procedures and their related enterprise systems. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented but with an ability to understand the university and state environment and contribute broadly to a variety of goals and projects
