Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President for Human Resources, the Director of Benefits and Wellness performs managerial level duties in the full cycle of health, welfare, retirement and ancillary benefit plans and programs. The Director of Benefits and Wellness exercises initiative and judgment completing assignments with the highest degree of accuracy, timeliness, professionalism and confidentiality and exhibits commitment to both internal and external customer service. The Director of Benefits and Wellness is responsible for managing, collecting, and analyzing survey data on benefits and wellness programs, responding to internal and external requests for information on benefits and wellness, and maintains and provides key metrics to inform decision-making in Human Resources.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Directs the administration of the leave of absence programs including FMLA, NJFLA, COVID-19 leaves, etc.
  • Oversees sabbatical administration.
  • Directs the administration of TCNJ sponsored plans including: vision programs, dependent FSA, tuition waiver and reimbursement programs, transit check, and other ancillary programs.
  • Oversees pensions and retirement plan administration.
  • Directs the administration of health care plans including: medical, prescription, drug and dental insurance plans.
  • Conducts needs assessments and provides recommendations for process improvements to assure compliant, effective and efficient implementation of employee benefits, and new benefits and wellness initiatives.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve the employee benefit experience.
  • Researches and implements system enhancements and new functionality to find potential efficiencies and implement where practical.
  • Ensures all required government reports are accurate and submitted timely. Develops and maintains standard operating procedures as it relates to benefits administration.
  • Monitors legal and compliance regulations affecting health and welfare benefit plans and administration and proactively makes changes as needed.
  • Works closely with HRIS and third party vendors to automate and enhance benefit tracking and reporting.
  • Develops surveys to collect and measure employee feedback and utilizes data to improve customer experience.
  • Oversees the annual enrollment, wellness initiatives, and communications. Ensures accurate record keeping, and compliance.
  • Oversees retirement counseling sessions.
Education and/or Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, human resource management, organizational development or a related field with five plus years of progressively responsible human resources experience or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training required.
