Job Summary:
The Department of Applied Social and Political Sciences ( ASPS ) in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Human Service Administration beginning Fall 2022. Coppin State University seeks a forward-thinking leader for the Human Service Administration faculty position who will teach both graduate and undergraduate courses, serve as a liaison and develop greater collaborations and partnerships between departments, across campus and within the Baltimore Region.

The Department of Applied Social and Political Sciences participates in a collaborative program with the University of Baltimore, leading to a master’s degree in Human Services Administration. The Department also offers bachelor’s degrees in Sociology, Political Science, Social Science, Urban Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies and Nonprofit Leadership, a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and minors in Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, and Nonprofit Leadership. We are seeking a candidate who appreciates our unique composition and will be able to contribute to the growth of our multi-discipline social sciences department.

The faculty member is expected to engage in community outreach and build relationships with community organizations. Faculty members’ activities support departmental program goals/objectives and student learning outcomes (SLO’s). The successful candidate will have teaching and leadership experiences in the field of Human Service Administration.
Experience in one or more areas of direct services or case work, leadership and supervision, fundraising, board development, volunteer development, program sustainability, and leadership development is favorable.

Essential Responsibilities:
Teach graduate courses in Human Service Administration and other courses within the department as assigned.
Duties also include:
  • Graduate and undergraduate student advising
  • Engage in innovative curriculum/course development.
  • Collaborate with department faculty in providing co-curricular students experiences.
Student service expectations:
  • Increase enrollment in the program.
  • Attending university, departmental, and faculty meetings as requested.
  • Ensuring timely management and response to electronic correspondence from students, administrators, and other school officials.
  • Partnering with Academic Advisors to address student concerns.
  • Engage in assessment activities to maintain the quality and integrity of the Program, and to comply with regional accreditation standards.
  • Commitment to scholarly research and publication
  • Service on department, college, and university committees and engagement with the community
Required Qualifications

Education:
  • An earned doctorate in the Social Sciences (sociology, Political Science, Human Services) is preferred. An earned master’s in a practice related field (social work, counseling, etc.) with a doctorate in sociology or other social science is also acceptable.
Experience:
  • The position requires 3-4 years’ experience in direct human services, and/or human services leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Expertise in Human Service subfields such as health services, social services, addiction services, work force development, conflict mediation, program evaluation, and/or social policy development is favorable.
  • Experience in recruiting and advising students.
  • Proven ability and commitment to work collaboratively with people across a diverse range of disciplines and groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to support student advising, student learning outcomes and program completion.
  • Enforcing student conduct policies as outlined in the University Catalog.
Preferred Qualifications

Ph. D in a social science. Human services leadership.
